Sunshine State defender Jake Kreul breaks down what makes a Clemson offer different |
One edge rusher’s offer from Clemson speaks volumes.
2026 Orlando defensive end Jake Kreul received an offer from Clemson this month. Kreul is considered one of the top edge rushers within his class, hailing offers from Miami, Oklahoma, Michigan, and many others. When he received an offer from Clemson, however, he emphasized how special it was from Dabo Swinney. “I know how prestigious a Clemson offer is,” Kreul said. “I was talking to (defensive ends) Coach (Chris) Rumph about it, and they only offer about six kids at my position. That's the most prestigious I’ve seen schools be with their offers. It means a lot to me, and it feels like it validates all the hard work I’ve put in.” Kreul attended Dabo Swinney’s high school camp in early June and worked with Rumph as closely as he could. “It was a great experience,” Kreul said. “I was with another recruit in my class, Katrell Webb, and we got to work one-on-one with Coach Rumph for the first half of the camp. We worked on our pass rush moves and hand placement. I learned a lot that day and really appreciated being able to sit in a film room with him and go over how he teaches his players. I got an insight on what it was like to play for him throughout the camp.” Kreul says studying in the film room is his most vital tool, adding that his mind separates him from the rest of his class. “I would say I’m a technician,” Kreul said. “I’m not the most athletic or a freak of nature. I make up for that with my mental aspect. I may not be able to go toe-for-toe with everyone for speed or height, but I will lead the way with how I dissect the game. That’s where I separate from the competition.” Kreul plans to commit after his official visits, with a top-five list not set for himself at this point in his recruitment. Kreul has planned an unofficial visit to Michigan and will attend an Ohio State camp as the summer begins to take shape. When it comes to Clemson, the Tigers’ approach beyond football has made this offer from Swinney stand out significantly. “Dabo Swinney is a coach that has a resume of doing great things with his players,” Kreul said. “He makes sure that you go in there as a great football player but also a young man. He’s not going to kick you out and wants you to get a degree. Clemson sets you up for life. They have a great environment and set you up for life.”
