Clemson holds edge on Alabama in CBS top-50 ranking

CBS writer says Clemson and Alabama "seem destined to meet in the title game for a third season in a row."

Clemson football did enough against Boston College last week to earn the No. 1 spot in at least one national ranking.

A CBS Sports top-50 ranking pegged the Tigers as the top overall team for a second-straight week, edging Alabama and then Oklahoma.

The top-50 is compiled by CBS Sports college football writer Tom Fornelli, who says the formula involved is based solely on this season's results and not opinion.

His opinion, however, is it's looking like Clemson and Alabama at the top and then everyone else.

"Clemson Tigers grip on that top spot over Alabama Crimson Tide is pretty thin at the moment," Fornelli writes, "but while those two teams sit on top, I can't help but looking everywhere else...when I look at college football in 2017, I see 128 teams with plenty of flaws, and two teams that seem destined to meet in the title game for the third season in a row."
