Clemson AD addresses new softball stadium and football parking |
Clemson athletics is targeting around the end of the 2018 football regular season for construction on a softball stadium for its latest program.
Renderings of the new stadium shown Friday place it just outside the Chapman Grandstands in Doug Kingsmore Stadium. It would be right off Perimeter Road and adjacent to Jervey Gym, largely where a paved lot is used for football, baseball and other parking. Clemson athletic director Dan Radakovich told TigerNet that the rendering is currently only feasibility study drawings, but the location makes the most sense. "It seems to provide the best synergy for the program," Radakovich said. "Being close to (the) McFadden/Jervey (buildings) and right adjacent to baseball. A really prominent location to Perimeter Road. We're excited about that and we'll be hiring the architects of record soon and develop this even more." Radakovich said that they're looking to finalize plans by next summer and begin construction likely after football season next year. When it comes to football parking spaces lost, Radakovich says they are "always looking for new alternatives" in adding spaces. "That's part of our ongoing work with this stadium - knowing where it's going - that we have to be able to address some of that loss," Radakovich said. That's something that we don't have a definitive answer for, but we will as we get closer to the groundbreaking of this facility." Clemson softball is set to begin play in 2020.
