ACC Acknowledges Game Officiating Error during Clemson vs. NC State Game
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford, after reviews of video tape replays and interviews with officials and game administrators, acknowledged that game management errors by the officiating crew occurred at the Clemson at NC State game played on Saturday, October 9. "Our review of the situation involving penalties during the Clemson-NC State game, leaves no doubt that the officials errored in their application during the course of the contest," said Swofford. "The officials in this crew are extremely competent; however, the entire officiating crew works as a team and must be accountable as a team." Each of the officials involved will serve a one-game suspension as determined by ACC Coordinator of Football Officials Tommy Hunt. TigerNet Notes: Among the problems cited by both NC State and Clemson were: The officials incorrectly marked off yardage on a penalty. The 25-second play clock expired without a violation being called. N.C. State was called for holding in the backfield on a first-down pass play, and officials assessed the penalty from the spot of the foul instead of the line of scrimmage. In total, the officials called a 26 penalties for 244 yards.
