I have never had the time to take it up. I was kinda special at putt putt in Myrtle Beach back in the 50's.
At 50 a friend took me to a Par 3 course. I had fun.
Once a wealthy guy (excellent golfer) needing a friend to buffer took me along to Myrtle as he entertained his clients. I did not tee up, but did go on the fishing boat to the gulf stream. I also was 2nd in a 5K that week held on the beach.
I used to get paid to hang around in shorts when the Senior Tour hit Charlotte in case a crazy showed. I know all the greats, most are too old to remember me now.
I had the opportunity to be a walking scorer at the Honda Classic and Doral tournaments when I lived in South Florida. I have played golf since my late 20s but have never been very good at it so it was really interesting getting to walk with groups of professional golfers and watching them play from up close. My first group was Hal Sutton, Paul Azinger and Payne Stewart. I had a group with Payne Stewart again on Saturday that week. That was the last season before Payne was killed in the plane crash. Most of the golfers would sign a golf ball and give it to the scorer after the round. So now I have about 3 dozen autographed golf balls in a display case. I also got to do the walking scoring for the Dan Marino celebrity golf tournament. One day I walked the course keeping score for Dan Marino, John Smoltz and Danny Kannell. That was fun.
