Joey is the best.... I remember when he had Ruben Mendoza and John Sisk as his assistant strength and conditioning coaches. Best trio ever put together in strength and conditioning. Larry Greenlee was a grad assistant.

Tell Coach Batson thanks for everything.... To be the strength and conditioning coach for three different head coaches (West, Bowden, and Dabo) over 30 years is unheard of in the business.

How he changed the strength and conditioning program from West to Bowden was amazing. Used to be 18 100 meter sprints with 30 seconds rest in between with different times obviously for position groups... but to Bowden and RichRod to go to a mile run with 6 300 meters shuttles as a conditioning test on day one of fall camp was amazing. Bowden and Rich Rod did not huddle once in 1999 and we didn't have a OL over 300 pounds. Kyle Young was the anchor at center with Will Merritt, Akil Smith, TJ Watkins, and Theo Mugros. John McDermott played a bunch and I remember when Kyle Young got hurt, a walk-on Brian Outlaw played a couple games at center.

1999 was a good year.... almost beat the eventual National champ FSU in the Dillard's game in Bowden Bowl 1 with a blocked FG as time expired. We also lost to the runner up V Tech who had M Vick and also to Marshall with Chad Pennington. Three undefeated teams in the regular season. 6-6 wasn't what we wanted, but we beat USC and carried Brad off the field at Wille B just to really stick it to them.

Streeter was the starter, but got knocked out of the G Tech game with a broken collar bone. But he stayed in the game for one more play after he broke his collar bone b/c he didn't tell anyone. The next play he tried to pass but had to scramble and got hit again. Streeter was one tough cookie.... and in came Woody D.

Rich Rod had ten plays he called that year. Indy 1-10. Even numbers were runs, odd were pass. At the end of every game, the opposing team said they knew what we were going to run but they couldn't get the call in in time. Then we would be 5 wide with the ball on our side of the field and on short yardage would run out the jumbo package and the defense didn't have time to sub. They had to make the Bowden rule in 2000 to give the defense a chance.

Doc Hoover was the man and Danny Poole was in training to take over.

Ole Fonz was the equipment manager and training up Abe....

Henry Guess has been running the video department for over 30 years and was there.

Nick Eason and Jeff Scott were freshman...

And probably the most under rated Clemson Tiger of all time... Ren Windam. The offensive secretary. She kept everyone in line at Jervey. Ren is one of a kind and the best of the best. She always made sure there was plenty of Fatz Cafe fried chicken available for all....
