any list that doesn’t have Smokey Dreams and includes Pig Out (pure creosote), Henry’s (ribs are so over done you can bite right through the bone), and Game Day (no taste without sauce) is suspect
I want to try Bobby’s and I’ve heard good things about Thin Que Line
Southside Smokehouse has good food in general not just bbq.

Browns and McCabes way down the list. Hites too high up.

at least in the context of a top 10 list.
Any SC BBQ list that doesn't include one of the kings out of New Ellenton is laughable in my opinion.
I've been to a good many on the top 10 list and the other mentionables and not one of them is even close to Carolina BBQ in New Ellenton...at least in terms of pulled pork, hash, and veggies. If you want brisket, then that's another story.

the hash alone. Their sides have become just average, but the pork and hash are great.

back in the day. The okra is legit. If I’m craving great cue and hash, we go to Carolina. If I’m wanting better sides, more choices, and pretty darn cue and hash we go to Dukes. Plus Dukes has fried chicken on the buffett, which is the t|ts. It’s for real the best fried chicken I think I’ve ever had.

Belly's - walking distance to my house. I eat there less than once a year. That should tell you something. I didn't even know they were in business....
Hite's BBQ - yea, it's legit. Only every had pulled pork and hash from there. My aunt always gets it for her 4th of july cookout. I never go there on my own, because I think you have to reserve it ahead of time or something. Smells good as hail though, when I drive by.
Rodney Scott's - never had it, but it's on my list. Hear it's great.
Smoking Pig - Pretty good.
Dukes - Good stuff. I always go there if I'm in the area. Fried chicken is some of the best I've ever had.
Maurice's - I love this stuff. It's a good place. Haters gonna hate.

is not good. I enjoy it, pork and brisket, and there are an awful lot of people lined up there to eat or pick up. I've heard the ribs are special at Circle-M out iin the countryside off Hwy 178 between Pendleton and Powdersville. Anyone been there?

Its just not that great, IMO. Top that off with the random whackass hours they have, and if you want a beer with it you gotta stop by the QT on the way home...It's just that its the only 'Q place around that makes it popular.
If it had any legit competition, it'd just be mentioned as "Oh..and theres smokin' pig".

I remember eating at Brown's in Kingstree waay back and it was pricey then. Scott's or Lewis in CHS will set you back as well for what it is, but it is good.
I had Home Team last week and I think they gave me some cooked salt with some BBQ thrown on top of it. I walked out of there $100 lighter. But about < 40 of that were Gamechangers, beer, and wine.

for my taste.
At Little Pigs, $7 will get you a 8-inch high pulled-pork sammie, fries, and a tea...and the pulled pork is about the same as at Smokin' Pig and Pompous Pig.

So far, this is as close as I've gotten:

They recently passed a 9 month (IIRC) moratorium throwing up dinkyass neighborhoods in my area though. Not sure of the exact working, but it put the keibosh on a 50 acre track in my area that was supposed to be sold to one of those megabuilder companies.

I think Pendleton passed one not too long ago due to a shitton of townhomes being thrown up. A proposed 350 home subdivision down the road from me was just defeated not too long ago, there was a ton of pushback from the locals. I think that's what it's going to take to stop these Winkopp bandits. And I pity the fool who is buying a house in one of these future ghettos, because that's exactly what they are....middle class ghettos.

of elaborate money laundering scheme, because I have yet to see evidence any of them are even close to full capacity. But they just keep building more. Henry's? Really?
Jun 21, 2021, 4:02 PM
|
|
Henry's is not bad, I eat there quite a bit, but among the best in SC? No way. Mike and Jeff's, on the other hand, is very, very good. Sometimes I think these BBQ places get rated based on atmosphere, or how much of a "hole in the wall" they are, or what kind of story they have, rather that how good the barbecue actually is. Just one Greenvillian's humble opinion.

Glenn's Grill & BBQ in Carlisle SC. Was making trips to Kershaw every other week from Simpleville... you can probably guess why, there ain't much in Kershaw. On the way home in the evenings I'd drop over a hill and suddenly the car was full of the best aroma. No mistaking what it was. But I was always on a mission from God and hauling ### to get home, would zip right past it. Finally I said, you know what... I'm stopping there next time. So I did. Got 2 sandwich plates with mac&cheese & slaw for sides...
Seemed like Glenn was a one man show, just him and his little kid playing with toys behind the counter. Shot the chit with him a little, nice guy. Went outside to smoke and had a beer with a couple old black guys who are probably there every night. Cause that's how I roll. They were funny as ####, we had a blast. I still had an hour to get home. So I unpack the sammiches, nuke the BBQ, toast the buns in the oven to get em toasty again, and rebuild em.
It was some damm fine Q, and the sides were great. I love little hole-in-the-wall BBQ joints like this. Google it and look at ratings... all 4.5 to 5 stars.
