And they still have like 9 draft picks to shore up their line if they wish.

True, but there are some really good players to be gotten on rookie deals...

To make a playoff run, the Jags will need really good backups/quality starters on the Oline, those guys go down all the time.

Fingers crossed for Trevor..

I'm going to have to disagree with you there, games are still won (and lost)

I think a lot of their O Line issues have been addressed in free agency. I actually liked the move for Hunter. Outside of Brian Thomas, Trevor had literally no one to throw to on the edges.

So the answer to give Lawrence weapons is to draft a part time WR. Hunter has already made it clear he is playing both offense & defense. As good as he was at WR & he was good, his real value is at CB where he is a complete shutdown CB. The fact is that it is much harder to play CB & it’s harder to find a shutdown CB than it is to find a very good to great WR. A player who can almost take away one side of the field as a CB is a rare find & worth a great deal. I see Hunter eventually playing most his snaps on defense & just spot playing on offense. So it’s my opinion the Jags gave up too much for this pick.

Well, we'll see. But the fact that he IS the highest-rated receiver going into the draft shouldn't be overlooked. Only Egbuka was close, IMO.

Given the offensive mindset of the new coach, I'm not seeing it that way.

We will see. But I stand by that it’s harder to find a shutdown CB than it is to find a great WR.

I think the Jags take Watts in the 2nd round to address that need. If they snag him, I'd say mission accomplished.

All the experts also agreed that this was a weak WR draft so I not surprised he was ranked high at WR.

The problem is that Jacksonville's secondary was absolute trash as well, so Hunter can help fix that problem and add some explosive plays when he does play on offense. He won't be playing 120 plays per game like he did at Colorado, but it wouldn't surprise me to seee him taking a huge chunk of snaps at DB and then also a dozen or more snaps as a receiver.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

personally i think Trevor needs to be more consistent with moving the offense

Some of that comes with probably doing the things he's more comfortable with and taking ownership of the offense. I feel like he's still in the mode of "running the play the coach called." I see him pump faking alot trying to wait for the receiver to get open which is probably him running the play the coach wanted him to run and going to the receiver the play is designed for. Which makes for stalling drives and just inconsistency. He needs to check out of that and go to the open man. Some is also lack of talent around him but he can be better than what he's been.

I'd like to see him go up to the line and audible out of plays that are not going to work. The QB greats always seemed to be checking down and communicating more at the line.. almost like an on the field O.C.

Maybe this new coach (who is a QB guy) will allow him to be the On the field O.C. more and he can play the game he wants to play and go to the guys he's comfortable with instead of following a scripted playsheet.
