Delay of game on the defense?

How is this possible? I think it was the OU/TT game I was watching a replay of and that was the penalty.

One of the D-lineman must have been using similar sounds

as the QB normally does trying to get the center to hike the ball before he was supposed to or another lineman to false start.

I believe you may be thinking about the illegal subsitution

12 men on the field penalty. You're only allowed to substitute at certain times like the offense is limited as far as breaking huddle w/12 etc.

Was the moronic "hitting a defenseless receiver" call.

I'd like to know the interpretation of that. Did he think he lead with the helmet or something? If that wasn't the case, I don't understand how that's called a penalty. If you come across the middle you're gonna get hit. Is the defender supposed to let him catch the ball?

Imitating a snap count to cause the OL to have a false start, not getting off the ball carrier quickly enough, hitting the ball prior to the snap, knocking/throwing the ball away intentionally after the play is over, and sometimes for a substitution issue
