Creedence Clearwater Revival

Jun 12, 2012, 2:48 AM

I'm only 18 and I just discovered them a few days ago. Why haven't I heard of them before? My god they are ####### amazing. John and tom fogerty have more talent in one stran of hair then all the artist out there today combined.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

They certainly have a long list of good songs

Jun 12, 2012, 3:29 AM

You probably haven't heard of them b/c they were only around from the late 60's to early 70's. Band had some real bad blood between them and never reunited. Tom died about 20 some years ago. John sings solo and the other 2 still tour as well but CCR itself was short lived. John actually refused to perform with Stu and Doug when CCR was inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame in '93.

Great band! They were California city boys who were able

Jun 12, 2012, 5:54 AM

to convince listeners they were byou country boys with some political energy. Sad the two brothers fell out with each other and fought over control of the band name and copy right laws.

They were amazing !!!! I was stationed at Ft Fisher in 69 when I first heard them. Every song they played was awesome!! Another great band around that time was the Eagles!!

He got to listen to my 70's music on our trips to Clemson. Great times!

Blues from the 50s and 60s?

All good music can be traced to the Blues. Don't start in

writer and front man. Some of his solo stuff is also good too. He is one of the best singer songwriters I've heard.

The band "officially" broke-up in 1972.....

Jun 12, 2012, 8:12 AM

primarily because of on-going tension and disputes among the band members. The original Creedence lineup rarely reunited after their breakup. About the only time you hear the music anymore is on classic rock stations.

Since Tom Fogerty died from AIDS complications in 1990, a rerunion of the original four members is, of course, impossible.

While a reunion of the remaining three has been discussed, Stu Cook and Doug Clifford have repeatedly said that they are not interested in a CCR reunion.

How long did CCR actually exist as an entity?

Jun 12, 2012, 2:19 PM

Probably my all time favorite band.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

poor selection of radio stations?

Jun 12, 2012, 8:21 AM

not sure how you have never heard of CCR. They're not my favorite band by far, but still they are 1000x better than anything you hear on the radio today.

If you like them, do yourself a favor and go get some Stevie Ray Vaughan, "old" ZZ Top (pre-"Legs"), or Grand Funk Railroad.

I honestly feel sorry for today's youth for what passes for music these days. And no, it's not the typical old person rant about "music is the devil".....today's stuff is WAY too mellow. Music has been "pansy-fied" (the G-rated term) into shallow, hollow mush.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Their best song IMO is "Green River"***

Jun 12, 2012, 9:00 AM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

"Born on the Bayou"

Jun 12, 2012, 10:09 AM

"Long as I can see the light"

Jun 12, 2012, 6:09 PM

"Fortunate Son" a close second. "Lookin' out my back door"; there version of "Heard it through the grapevine" is killer as well

Jun 12, 2012, 9:26 AM

I still have several of their albums. :) You know - those old 33RPM records. Yep - old. And you're right - it is still nice to listen to them. Glad you finally found them.

I don't know that I have a favorite though. All of their stuff is pretty good. I did like the long version of "Born on the Bayou".

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Agree! If you like them have you also tried The Eagles?

Jun 12, 2012, 9:28 AM

You've probably heard of them but have also probably missed a lot of their music.

My girls grew up listening to The Eagles and know every word from every track on Hotel California.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I hate the Eagles. You should too. Hotel Cali=Suck***

Jun 12, 2012, 9:59 AM

July! John Fogerty IS CCR. Wrote and lead singer on the majority of the songs.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Jun 12, 2012, 10:10 AM

I saw him a few years ago after he broke his self-imposed ban on performing CCR tunes.

Thank you Bob Dylan and George Harrison.

Re: For years he would not perform any of the old CCR songs

Jun 12, 2012, 4:30 PM [ in reply to For years he would not perform any of the old CCR songs ]

It was not self-imposed. In the early days, he was also their manager and signed all of his songs over to Saul Zantz who forbid him to sing his own songs after the group broke up. Zantz owned Fantasy Records. A real scum-bag.

lol---you're making me feel VERY old......Creedence broke

Jun 12, 2012, 12:52 PM

out of the gate with an old R'n'B cover (SuzyQ)in the late '60's and didn't slow down for years.....If you're a rock'n'roller, check out "Sweet Hitchhiker"

When they finally disbanded, there was an enormous amount of enmity between John and Tom Fogerty and the other members of the band. As stated in another reply, for years, John wouldn't play any previous CCR hits.....Sadly, when it was discovered Tom had an incurable disease, John, despite pleas from their mother, refused to visit Tom in the hospital to make amends in his last days.

recorded, that being said, 'Someday Never Comes' is probably my favorite tune by them. Always gets me misty eyed and reminds me of my dad for some reason. I guess cuz he loved CCR even though Foggerty is a flaming liberal.
