That is what happens when you invest your money with people that you know nothing about!!!

Ever watch "American Greed?" They usually start with family & close friends - people who know & trust them the most. Then they start paying "dividends" out of those people's own money, so those family & friends start telling others about the "investment opportunity," and then strangers slowly start getting in on it.

As I've noticed, these schemes usually have 3 things in common:
1) Unbelievable returns on investment - literally unbelievable. The rates are much higher than any normal investment.
2) Some scheme that's "only available to [me] [my company], and for a short time," creating a sense of exclusivity and urgency meant to both mask the fraud & not give the victims time to think/back out.
3) Exotic locations, or connections to something ephemeral that can't be investigated by the investors - they have to take the person at their word. If you trust your child/sibling/spouse/cousin/in-law, why would you question their veracity?

As I see it, and I'm not an investor, my career was in insurance compliance so I'm very risk averse, the biggest mistake most of these people make is putting all their eggs in one basket - going All In is only good for being a Tiger fan, it's the wrong thing to do in investments.

pretty crappy kind of an individual. Seemed to me be one of the sorry types with rocks in his head. Sae him acting like an idiot on more than one occasion downtown. Once i was at the light in late daylight afternoon at the intersection of 123 and main street when a car ran the red light heading towards seneca. He was behind the wheel with a car load of guys, laughing like ####, almost like it was deliberate. Never slowed down. He was very lucky he didnt kill somebody.

I don’t think stealing money with schemes has a “Party” as long as you’ll put your money into it.

The money becomes their addiction thinking they will be able to gamble their way out until the bitter end.

The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

How do seemingly intelligent people fall for these kinds of schemes. It's not as if the researching of anything is difficult in today's informational age.

I've watched nearly every episode of "American Greed," and seriously, it comes down to two things: greed and blind trust.
I mean, look at the comments here disparaging people who use public assistance - LITERALLY EVERY AMERICAN over the age of 65 receives public benefits of one kind or another. What do y'all think Medicare is? Social Security? Those are forms of public assistance. Yet people on this article's comments feel it important to disparage Americans receiving assistance? So then why do people risk their life's savings trying to avoid needing assistance? It's because IT LOOKS BAD. They risk all their hard-earned money in these schemes just to avoid looking bad to jackals like these people, who think everything is political, even sickness and old age.
This is literally only a USA problem. All other capitalist nations have this figured out. Only the USA doesn't. And it doesn't involve either personal wealth or lack of government assistance for the elderly or disabled. And, their working people live better than the majority of Americans. Those aren't opinions, those are measurable facts.
Stop blaming the victims when you ask why smart people "fall" for this. Why do they feel the need to participate at all? Because they would rather be victims of a conman than ask for help. That's pathological, and you can see why just in the comments on this article.

I do, as well! While we do run a pretty clean program with great people, on and off the field, there always are exceptions to the rule. Thankfully justice has been done, but the poor folks who fell for the scam got blistered, and they have no recourse. I hope he does some real suffering for his actions, and I'm sure he will. I'm sad for his family, though. They will have that burden to carry, too, being known as related to him.

Why would T-Net staff even post this as a story. I would understand if he was a current player or a popular player. With all the great news... this isn't news. Should have just let a poster post the story.

After all the recruits committing, probably a few family and friends looking at tigernet. Is this really what you want people to see as a lead story?

Dumb and you should take it down. @dhood

I hate stories like this. Linking this piece of scum to our football program is a disservice to all the good that’s come from it. It’s like the occasional story about the latest shenanigans from Chad Kelly, and the best way I can sum up my feelings is “I really don’t care, Margaret”

TNet, if you insist that this is news, then I ask for you to find 5 stories of good being done by former Tigers as a balance. I’ll read those and ignore this tripe.

This stuff is everywhere.
Seriously, y'all, do you have CNBC?
Or access to YouTube?
American Greed has 15 seasons of episodes.
It's spawned spin-offs.
There've been hundreds - if not more - of similar schemes around the USA. Americans are such easy marks for Ponzi schemes.
And for those people who don't like that TigerNet posted this story: they post when former Tigers die, they post when former Tigers get drafted even if from a different school, they post stuff about former Tigers all the time.
As an alumnus, I can handle the fact that not all of life is roses. That's literally how life works. Humans go to Clemson. TigerNet posted about DeShaun Watson - his problems were fairly scandalous. Humans make mistakes. We are required to embrace our brethren even when they disappoint us. That's what unconditional love is. If you only love the Tigers when they make you look good, that's not love, that's narcissism.
