I went to Clemson because of its awesome baseball team - I was applying to grad schools in '91, 4 years after college graduation, and that '91 Clemson team had gone to the CWS, but I knew Coach Wilhelm's reputation before that. I was lucky to get to meet and interview him during his final year at Clemson, and he taught me some things about baseball history that I had never heard before, so I'll always be grateful for that. In fact, in his honor, and in honor of the '06 team that also went to Omaha, the kitten I adopted during that CWS is named Wilhelm (well, he's now an 11 year old who's built more like John Kruk than Coach Wilhelm). My MA thesis was on baseball history, and I studied partly under the late Dr. Joe Arbena (for my BA, I studied under Rob Ruck, another baseball historian & sports fanatic). I did my doctorate studies at the U, but left the program ABD (All But the Dissertation) due to family emergency then my own health problems. Right now I'm working on getting back to work, because I love it, and I love to travel, and my passport is just gathering dust.
