Does anyone know...

May 25, 2004, 8:16 PM

Where I can find series records and overall comparisons between Clemson and USC in all sports? I'm supposed to give a persuasive speech for a class on Thursday and I want to tell people why Clemson's Athletic Department is better than Carolina's as a whole.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Step up to the podium...

May 25, 2004, 8:53 PM

...and say with authority, "63 to 17." Then read the text of "This Is Carolina Football." That should convince them.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The main problem in convincing stupid people that they are stupid, is that they are usually too stupid to comprehend their own stupidity.

bringing up the fact that the only way USC can compete with Clemson is with programs that Clemson does not have.

The last thing USC needs is a law school at Clemson. It would probably take about five years for it to rival USC's law school, then it would quickly pass it by.

A Med School at Clemson would be an even worse idea, since it's actually fairly expensive, and there are already two programs in the state.

Rather than throwing away the state's money on duplicate programs (like USC's Medical School), Clemson chooses to focus on programs that actually help the state and society.

Clemson and USC are two different types of schools. It is fairly hard to compare them, considering the courses of study each school offers and focuses on. You also have to look at the size of each school when comparing average SAT scores, etc. Some school in the state has to allow more of the instate students into school, even if their SAT score are lower. It is good for the state and for the students, even if it means lowering the admission standards.

That's what schools like Lander and Winthrop are for.

May 26, 2004, 10:58 AM

along with Francis Marion and College of Charleston. $CU admits more students becasue they desperately need the revenue in order to support a load of unnecessary programs like its engineering and medical schools.

Re: All institutions in the state are good for the state.

May 26, 2004, 11:30 AM

Being the flagship university, USC must provide the most eclectic group of programs and allow the most number of students into the university. Lander, etc are good for the state as well, even if they are much smaller and don't produce near as many graduates.

I was working on my senior Engineering project...

May 26, 2004, 12:33 PM

on a multi-university team comprised of Clemson, Georgia Tech, and South Carolina students. We are sitting in the initial meeting, and trying to dole out the tasks, and one of USC's finest pipes up with the question, "Is air compressible". It was about that time that I started to seriously question whether or not I would ever want to work with someone from E-school at South Carolina - and that if their engineers comprised the majority of government jobs, if I wanted to live in the state for much longer.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: LOL Dunno if I'd consider him USC's finest, but..

May 26, 2004, 2:14 PM

I see your point. However, more than one school in the state needs to have some similar programs so students who want to go to school in SC can have a choice as to which school they attend. Clemson definitely excels in ag/engineering, but I'm sure there are students interested in engineering that would rather go to school in Columbia (as shocking as that may seem), so they should have at least that option.
