OSU ranked ahead of Clemson in ESPN's FPI rankings |
Clemson moved up one spot to a ranking of No. 3 in the nation behind Alabama and Ohio State in the 2017 rankings of the
ESPN Football Power Index.
ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance for a season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is, and projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. The top 10 in the rankings were Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, Penn State, Washington, Oklahoma, Georgia, Wisconsin, Auburn, and Notre Dame. Florida State is ranked No. 14 despite having a 1-3 record on the season. However, a 6-0 Washington State team is rated only at No. 18 overall. Clemson's in-state rival South Carolina is ranked No. 35 in the rankings. The index was updated on Monday to include several different interesting projections. The Tigers were given a 55.0% to win the ACC conference and a 28.6% to go undefeated according to the projections. Clemson was projected to also have an 11.7 win season with 1.0 losses with a remaining strength of schedule of #33 overall.
