ESPN GameDay: "QB situation is gonna blow up in Clemson's face", "finesse group" |
More locker room material for Dabo Swinney and the No. 4 ranked Clemson football team.
The ESPN GameDay crew was blatantly critical of Clemson's quarterback situation, their talented defense, and veteran offensive line during their popular Saturday morning show. ESPN analyst David Pollack wants to see the offensive line get more physical by running the football. "I don't care who is at quarterback for Clemson, they need more of what they had last week," he said. "They need to run the dan-gum football. They need more physicality for Clemson. They got to man up a little more and bring some more intensity to the table and physicality on the offensive line." Clemson rushed for an impressive 293 yards including a remarkable 203-yard effort by running back Travis Etienne last week. ESPN commentator Kirk Herbstreit added that Clemson's defense needs to start making some more plays especially the linebackers. "Well said especially on the defense," he said. "We take for granted its Brent Venables, it's that defensive line, they are gonna be great but as David just said, they have been vulnerable getting to the quarterback. They are giving up yards and linebackers at times are getting exposed. They really miss Dorian O' Daniel to me being able to make plays out in space. We get so caught up on Kelly Bryant and Trevor Lawrence. I don't think they are gonna play anyone that can potentially expose it, maybe NC State down the road. I'm sure the coaches are internally challenging these guys to play better." Clemson's defnse held Syracuse to only 12 first downs and 311 total yards last week. Finally, Desmond Howard went all wild talking about how Clemson's quarterback situation will blow up in their face and that the offense is soft physically. "The expectations are through the roof coming into the season," he said. "If you make a quarterback decision like Dabo made, everything is at risk, everything is at stake. I think the quarterback situation is gonna blow up in their face at some point in the season. I don't see them being a physical outfit offensively. They are more of a fitness group, they are not gonna be a smash mouth group. You can't change who you are in the middle of the season. You are who you are. You are what you are. I think the quarterback situation is gonna catch up with them and the defense hasn't been as dominant as people have anticipated with that four defensive linemen all NFL caliber studs. It will catch up with them at some point. I think they are gonna lose a regular season game and maybe the ACC Championship game." Don't mind Howard too much, he has Oklahoma currently as the No. 2 team in the country. David Pollack is the only ESPN GameDay analyst that still has Clemson as a playoff team. Desmond Howard's Top 4 CFB Predictions 1. Alabama 2. Oklahoma 3. Notre Dame 4. Ohio State Kirk Herbstreit's Top 4 CFB Predictions 1. Alabama 2. Ohio State 3. Georgia 4. Oklahoma Lee Corso's Top 4 CFB Predictions 1. Alabama 2. Notre Dame 3. Ohio State 4. LSU David Pollack's Top 4 CFB Predictions 1. Alabama 2. Ohio State 3. Clemson 4. Georgia Never seen the #CollegeGameDay guys seem so hypocritical. They are mostly down on Clemson for switching to the most touted QB prospect in years, but then up on Notre Dame for making a similar QB change. I don't get it. Doesn't matter if we keep winning. Here’s the deal folks: they want to penalize Clemson for not blowing teams out right now but if Clemson beat everyone else all the way thru the ACCCG by 49, they will penalize us for an “easy schedule” “played nobody”. That’s why I get frustrated with this narrative!!
