and his staff. The work so hard to build a winning program with a culture focused on these athletes long term future. It’s disappointing that so many of the moms and dads along with the kids are more concerned about the money rather than the big picture: Education, developing kids into grown up people with character and maturity. One of Dabo’s goals is to teach these kids to be ready for the day their athletic career ends.
If I were Dabo I would feel the disappointment of having a recruit bought right out from under. 🤬😡
Most coaches do not care about an athlete’s future. It’s get what can from them on the field that turns into wins. After these coaches have used all a kid can give for wins it’s see you later.
I honestly believe if NIL, the TP, revenue sharing and greed had not consumed college football it’s possible that Dabo would have 1 or 2 more NC’s at Clemson.
I admire Dabo for staying the course maintaining the culture he helped to establish at Clemson before money and greed changed college sports into pay for play sports.
In the past many of these parents would help guide their kids to Clemson. Because it’s about education and personal development. A culture focused on kids becoming responsible adults who contribute to society.
Now these same parents and their pay for play kids are probably out checking the car lots, expensive jewelry, and other stuff they think will bring them happiness. Many of these kids will be struggling financially by the time they hit their late 30’s or early 40’s. And most of them want be prepared for real life. 😳 I have get a job now ? Why was I not told about this sooner.
This how I see the future.

I am not disappointed for Dabo. He is doing the best he can and he understands that you will win some and you will lose some, and that you don’t always get what you want. I understand this too. We will be fine. Would have loved to have this kid come to Clemson but Dabo and his guys will move on and do their best with or without him.

I never said anything negative about Dabo and his staff. I would to know why one poster said we will never get back to the top with Dabo ??
I know Dabo and his staff will move on. It’s just sad these kids can’t see the Forrest for the greed that has taken over college athletics. I believe HS sports will be next. I believe some states are either pushing for it or they have passed laws that now allow HS athletes to receive some compensation.
And it has to be frustrating when greed is consuming sports at every level.

It seems every time a player chooses a school other than Clemson is has to be due to some character flaw, either with the player or his parents. That, or posters with a narrative that Dabo can no longer land the big time recruits. Sometimes you just miss on a player you wanted and it isn’t anymore complicated than that.

wueagle86® I knew what you meant and was agreeing that Dabo and our program will be fine with or without this guy. Dabo gets it and he’s happy when we land a big one, and moves on to the next one when one decides not to come here.

Regrettably, I agree with everything you said

I wonder how many of these kids have hangers on and “cousins” that come out of the woodwork preying on 17-18 year old kids who’ve never had a dime. I’m sure they’re pressuring them to take the short-term Texa$ ATM money instead of bettering themselves for a lifetime of success. I also miss the days where values are prioritized over value. Sad times.

I don’t think a kid HAS to come to Clemson to be well-coached, grounded and prepared for life ahead. Is Dabo at the front of the list of coaches that are effective? Sure. At many positions coaching wise, he is way up there. Our d linemen get drafted. Developed. O line wise? Until recently I’d say those kids got top notch life lessons but less than par coaching.
By all accounts I’ve seen, Elko is changing the culture at TaM. Getting players involved in community, pushing them hard. Just because Wright is taking a lot of money doesn’t mean his future is doomed. Many, many great players go on to live successful, giving, grounded lives from other colleges.
I hate losing Wright, but I wish him the best there. If he were going to UGA, FSU, or many other schools that have questionable coaches I’d feel differently.

Yet they still lose 4 games every year. I will believe everything about him changing A & M when I see it on the actual playing field. Until then it’s just talk & talk is cheap. He leaves for A & M & Duke hired Manny Diaz & they don’t miss a beat so maybe he wasn’t as great a coach as everyone thought.

Can’t argue that. I could turn around and say Diaz hasn’t had time to screw it up yet and Elko has had 1 year at TaM, but those are just excuses.
I’m saying Wright had us first up until a week ago. We did not have the $ to compete then with his other suitors, so 99% chance it wasn’t ALL about the money.
You and I aren’t 18 year old kids either. I find it commendable when a recruit turns down even 50k a year difference.
About 1 out of every 100 of us on here would justify leaving a great, family oriented company to go to a good, not much bigger company for 3x the salary. He’s 18.

Great Post TGRRAG.
And to answer other comments, yes I know we have a great class. I just don’t like the fact the recruits to focus on the money first. Terri Saban ask Nick why are we doing this ? All of the moms I met with talked mostly about the money and how Bama was going market their kid for the best financial returns for his NIL. When Nick Saban and his Wife leave college football because of greed then it must be getting worse. I expect to see other coaches to look outside of college athletics for employment. Or just retire.
I would not be surprised if Dabo decides to retire in the next few years.

If it were ONLY about the money with Wright, why were we the leader and expected school before this past week? There is zero doubt Miami, Texas, etc were offering more than we will $ wise.
Maybe, just maybe, it was a combination of coaching, culture, and cash. Maybe Clemson was #1 on his list for coaching d line wise. Maybe he loves our culture. But maybe TaM was a close second and the cash difference was too much to say no to.

The PRIMARY reasons why we dropped from top 4 to top 15
Jul 5, 2025, 6:33 PM
|
|
1. 2021 - DJU 2. 2022 - DJU 3. 2023 - developing Cade K 4. 2024 - loss of defensive focus and intensity
It’s starts with a great QB.
The end.

That DJU LOVE BY DABO DID NOT HELP MOVE OUR PROGRAM FORWARD.
Proven by Oregon State and FSU.
