The defense played terrible but the team did enough to win. If that pass interference is called correctly the only plays left in the game are kneels
The back judge should join Conn at the unemployment office tomorrow.

The refs were doing a fairly good job up until the last minute of the game. Then they decided to throw it to Duke by calling DPI on an obvious OPI, then calling an OPI on Clemson when nothing even happened.
The line on this game was Clemson -3.5 before the game, last I saw. Interesting how the refs decided to give the game to Duke right at the end. Wouldn't shock me to find out they put some money on it.

No but it did. It was a terrible call. The refs absolutely screwed us twice actually. The offensive interference penalty was absolute garbage as well. Guess they just wanted some insurance.

Agreed they shouldn't.
But every now and then, they do.
It wasn't pretty, esp in first half, but they did what needed to be done ... they held on 4th down. They made one more play than Duke when it mattered. and then that call moved the goalpost w only 40 secs left
With 4 mins to go and that happens, you get mad at refs but tell offense they have tome to overcome, go do what it takes to win. Cant really do that here.
Now, from a coaching perceptive...yes ... you tell the team that if they dont give up a kick return and you win. Tell defense, dont gove up 21 in first quarter and you win. Thats all true and is critical from coaching a team thru and over adversity
But that doesnt change the fact that in end, we did one just enough more than Duke. And w 40 secs left, refs made a questionable call (at best) to extend Dukes drive when it shouldve been over

Yes! Don't give up 46 to Duke at home and this is a non-issue. Long gone are the days the Tigers would roll up inferior opponents at home and a few bad calls would go unoticed, more or less.

So according to you, the 3 busted coverage TD's we gave up because our defensive backfield sucks as well as the busted kickoff return coverage had nothing to do with us losing!? LOL

The defense gave up a lot of points but the offense did enough to win. Definitely wasn’t a PI and if not called we win. They didn’t even throw a flag. They just huddled.

That’s not what I said at all. Try reading again. The defense played terrible but the final score should have been 45-38.
It’s an ugly showing, but a showing that should have resulted in a win.

And yet, despite that, team found itself at the end to win it ... and they got that stop ... until refs stepped in
Defense (and kick return team) screwed up and put us in a bad position. Defense still sux. But then defense held and refs call took what should've been a win away
Both can be true, and it doesn't mean he is defending the defense. We see ... good teams find a way to win, dont quit despite mistakes and adversity". We are not a good team. But today they did get in position to win despite everything, made the stop.when it mattered, and refs screwed it

Nah, this team hasn’t deserved to win. Heck we got a break getting by Troy. Shouldn’t even be division 1 right now tbh, this is a group of 5 team all day, and probably wouldn’t even be number 1 there.

We got a couple bad calls BUT our defense and special teams gave up 46 points. Those 46 points are NOT on the officials

In order to make a bowl game we need 6 wins (La Tech went 5-7 last and made one, but we can't expect that to happen to us)
We need 3 more wins, we'll beat Furman, but our remaining schedule is: Florida State, Louisville, South Carolina, and we need to win 2 of those 3.

This isn’t a freak game like the 2015 Pitt game. We’ve been bad all season. Yes, it was a bad call. But Clemson allowed DUKE to score those points and keep the game close. Refs suck. They always suck. There are serious issues and rot in this program. If the call had gone our way, the rot and issues would still be there. No excuse for Clemson to lose to Duke or SMU or Syracuse at home. Ever. Not with how much money is paid to these players and coaches.

The defense also had another set of downs and a 2 point conversion to win the game
The offense got the ball kicked off with 40 seconds.
They had chances and blew it.
Don't let Duke score 46 in your home stadium and you don't worry about refs.

You’re missing the point. To win the game you have to make one more play than the other team. Clemson absolutely did that this afternoon but a bad call changed the final outcome.
There’s no excuse for how the team played today. All the critics about the blown coverage and soft defense still hold true if Clemson were to win. But there’s should be no doubt if that call was made correctly Clemson would have won the game.

This. I don’t understand why it is so hard people to accept both things can be true. Everything on this site has broken down into “I blindly stand with Jesus Chr, uh, I mean Dabo for giving me the best years of my life” vs “Dabo should be fired without pay, sued for ‘ruining’ the team of the school I graduated from 40 years ago, and summarily executed by Brian Kelly”. And apparently no daylight between the two positions

AT completely muggeed the dude off the line of scrimmage. Based on when the flag was thrown, yes, it was a bad call. And I know the DB gets 5 yards before PI is to be called and its holding if the mugging happens before the ball is thrown and PI if it happens when the ball is in the air.
AT is way too physical with the WR and gets PI all the time.... If you watch the play from the snap, AT is guilty of holding... if not PI.
I hate the call, but at the end of the day, its not why we lost.

You don’t deserve to win when you let a team go 5-5 on 4th down. Or give up a kick off return. Or better yet, let a receiver go untouched into the end zone for an easy 2 points conversion conversion conversion.

I feel like the middle ground is clearly the only place to effectively stand. Yes, it was a terrible call. Yes, AT had always been overaggressive, and gets a lot of PIs. I fell we forgot about some other things not as obvious. Our offense gave our D almost no break in the first quarter, and we fell behind. We also punted while up 7 with 5:30 left in the fourth, a prime opportunity to put the game away. In almost every aspect, no matter who you blame, it was one play away, be it a penalty, coaching, special teams, defense.
