Would never sell it, but I figure with gold prices up so

much, our class rings are now worth about:
10k/24k is 41.66% pure gold. So if it weighs 20 grams it would have 8.33 grams of pure gold (20gx.4166). There are 31.1 grams in an ounce so 8.33g/31.1g= .2676 ounces of pure gold. .2676x$1,904 (today's price) would be $519.14 in melt, then multiply what you expect or bottom line, say 75% and would probably get $389.35.
I would never part with it. My parents got it for me as a Christmas present the year I graduated. I think they paid in the $250 range. It is priceless to me so these numbers don't mean much. I was just curious because I had seen someone speculating as to their value on here. I have no clue what recent graduates had to pay for their rings.
Please correct me if these figures seem way off. I got the gold amounts above from another site.

I've bought three (and almost four) since I graduated. No fun with escalating gold prices but its a must have in my life.

It was wasting in a drawer. Never wore it. No regrets.
For the price of gold, it makes sense if no emotional attachment. If attached, then no price will make one melt it.

Mine was stolen several years ago. I've missed it ever since so I just today ordered a replacement. 10K gold medium is $1220 including tax.

Ring Sentiments

I wear my 72 class ring almost everyday and have done so for nearly 50 years. I like it and it means a a lot to me. I think many men my age and older thought of class rings as important and I continue to see many older guys wearing them. I also wear a nice watch almost all the time, though I do switch to a cheap casio when on the water or doing something that might cause me to lose or damage the watch.
My son is 36 and I am pretty sure he's never worn a watch or his class rings from high school or college.
My grandfather always wore a nice hat and carried a pocket watch when he went anywhere.
Fashions change.

I wear my Clemson ring when I go to games, or when I am

at work on the day of a big game, like the Mondays of the four playoff national championships.
I never wore my high school ring. My dad's high school ring got stolen years ago when our house was burglarized in 1979. He has always missed that ring, but grateful nobody was home when it happened.

Have worn mine mainly for special occasions and some at work. Doubt I wore the HS ring more than a dozen times as it was left at home when I joined the AF a couple years later. A friend in G'ville who ownes a jewlery store wears his even when playing golf. It's features are completely smooth.

My daughter sent mine into the manufacturer to get it resized for Father's Day last year. She was thrilled when they told her they would resize it once for free. Yep, free! She got off easy for Father's Day, but that no problem. I'm now wearing my ring again. (Class of 83)
