Why the questions about DW4 and his performance?

Could it be the expectations are higher? The performance is not lacking.
2015 thru 7 games: 1566 pass yds 234 rush yds 18 total tds Clemson was 7-0
2016 thru 7 games: 1950 pass yds 274 rush yds 21 total tds Clemson is 7-0
If I remember correctly he was the first player in NCAA history to have 4000 pass and 1000 rush in the same season in 2015
Could we be setting the bar a little too high for this young man?????

And a lot of that can be blamed on all the dropped balls!

he's def off on the deep ball, but he hasn't thrown near as many as it seems he did last year.. to this point, even... but, i think most teams are playing to take the deep ball away... state did an excellent job of that..

You failed to factor in the picks, including his first pick six against State last weekend. If you are going to talk about setting the bar,you have to mention the interceptions.

thought that he had more rushing yards than he did last year. I'm guessing you got that from a legit source. But, man, the "eye test" tells me he hasn't run as much. I guess that's why the eye test is BS, and stats are stats.

From PFF on Tigernet article today.
"While we had Watson at the top of the board to start the season, it’s been a disappointing start from an evaluation standpoint," PFF said. "Watson’s accuracy has declined this year, as evidenced by an adjusted completion percentage drop from 77.1 percent in 2015 to 71.3 percent this season. Beyond that, he’s made more poor decisions with the ball, either forcing passes into coverage or misreading the play entirely. There’s still a lot to like about Watson, and if last year is any indication, he’s about ready to right the ship and go off in the second half of the season, but we’d like to see improvement in a few key areas."

Stats don't tell the story of the game performance.

Watson is the man, and he performs in the clutch, and thank goodness. But our games have been closer than they need to be this year because of turnovers and missed opportunities. A portion of that is on Watson, who's timing has been clearly off this year in comparison to last year. This happens to football players for a variety of reasons, and the key point is that Watson still finds a way to lead his team to victory. It's not blasphemy to admit there's been a problem and hope that it gets corrected.

Good post. I agree with everything you said. I wouldn't trade Watson for anyone else in the country, but if you can't tell that Watson has been off this year, then you don't k ow what you're looking at. His accuracy isn't close to what it was his first two years. Even on completions, he's making his receivers go get the ball in tough spots. Low, high, left and right. And those are on the short to intermediate routes. His deep ball has been non existent this year. Really not even close. He's completed 1 ball over 40 yards, and is 0 for the season on the rest. Someone said he hasn't tried as many this year, that is false. We've thrown a ton of deep balls. It's got to be in his head. Hopefully he gets it fixed, because if we play bama and have a man open for a long td, dw4 has to hit him. Plain and simple.

Bingo. Watson is a victim of his own success from last year.

He's played well but just not "Watson good" if that even means anything.
I think if he had had just a mediocre season last year we'd be talking about how great he looks this year.
Having said that, he's been off on his deep ball all year.
