Wouldnt God be doing more important things? Im not football really matters to him. Thanking him for good health i get. Im just not sure he cares about the outcome.

He has a history of picking sides but really I wouldn’t presume to know what his take on football is. But it doesn’t hurt to ask for a win. And it doesn’t hurt to be thankful.

when god picks a side, the other side is obliterated from history. it doesn't sing its alma mater at the end of a game.

Don’t see a problem with anyone thanking God for good things that come or even helping them endure bad things. There are plenty of things that are more important to God, but God is not limited such that He needs to chose. And Godmay in fact at times care about specific outcomes. There are plenty of athletes that use their platforms well. Flippantly thanking God for being better than others or over spiritualizinng innately non-spiritual things pretty silly but also pretty prevalent though.

Also these kids have a platform and God has raised them to the point where their voice is heard by hundreds of thousands of people. Why not throw a shout out to Him?

I agree but i think you might be taking my question to the extreme. Im not saying you shouldnt or cant thank him but its what u thank him for thats odd to me. Thanking him for health, being abke to compete

I agree for the most part. I think it is a lot like the majority of our life choices, I don’t think God has a specific will for most of our decisions, but a general will that we bring Him glory... but I do think He has a specific will at times. I’m guessing it is the same for things as seemingly innocuous as football games too.

God is limitless. Doing one thing doesn't distract Him from another. Unlike us, He can handle the big picture and small details at the same time.
As long as these guys would also thank God if they lost, I have no problem with them giving thanks after a win.

The God I serve has no limits. Giving you good health does not keep him from allowing me to enjoy a football game. Plus the Bible says give thanks in all things!!! I thank God for everything!!

Why not? Why is the atheist so concerned? FWIW, the theological short answer to the TS's inane meandering is omnipotence.

I know what you're saying. It's just reflex. It's like the gal thanking God for winning the scholarship money at halftime. As though God isn't busy trying to help people working as slaves, or who are dying of cancer. Probably he isn't worried about whether some gal wins the 100,000 dollar check throwing balls into a container.
