Battle got yanked out of that game and it didn't stop me from laughing about it and watching it over and over. That's what happens if your disdain for NCST is high enough.

3 yards and a cloud of dust used to be how Clemson played football.
Heck it was how everybody played football back then
That combined with the smothering defenses we had then wins ya a lot of games.
And if you appreciate how stingy and mean our defense has grown accustomed to becoming , you can thank Danny Ford.
That being said , I believe the Oline groups at Clemson have produced more All-Americans than any other position group ?
That incidentally , it is why us old-timers expect great O lines.

I got caught up in Clemson folklore.
Maybe because he played for a rival
At any rate, folks often mention one and not the other .
That was my intention.

In all, seven former Tigers have won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, given to the best offensive linemen in the ACC. Tackle Mitch Hyatt won the award twice (2017 and ’18), while Wayne Mass (1966), Harry Olszewski (1967), Joe Bostic (1977), Lee Nanney (1981), James Farr (1983) and John Phillips (1987) are the others.

Mitch Hyatt = best
Hyatt started at LT immediately after arriving as a true FR.
LT is arguably the most important OL position in modern CFB, with the advent of pass oriented offenses.
We would not have gotten into the CFP without Hyatt’s superb play in 2015 and 2016, as we did not have high enough quality depth at OT positions to protect D.Watson adequately.
To top it off, Hyatt did, as you noted, win two Jacobs Blocking Trophies. No other Clemson OL had done that.
Again, the frame of reference here is best OL player for Clemson. Hyatt wins.
(Stacy Long was great, but injured late in his time with Clemson and thus never had a chance at NFL. Not that the NFL aspect means anything as far as this thread’s topic.)

Pick one of the Bostics and you have your man, but all of those late 70's, early 80's guys were all studs from either NC or GA and many played in the NFL. Those guys were a different breed of cats from linemen today and that was back in the day when men were men and sheep were nervous.

It is somewhat an and precise question because we don’t know if you mean best while they were at Clemson or best overall? If it is best overall, then I would go with Jeff Boston. He played professionally.
On the other hand, Mitch Hyatt didn’t do anything after college. He had all kinds of accolades in college but never played professionally. 🤷

Yep. Mitch was the first true freshman to start at LT for Clemson since 1959;
His entire career he struggled to ADD weight. Which I found fascinating..
Just like a career ending injury , it prevented further play.
Dallas gave him a shot. Unfortunate

Wayne used to come to the weight lifting club whrn I was at Clemson and he couldn't bench 300 Lbs. But back then players were not nearly as strong as they are today. He was an outstanding tackle at the same time Harry O was a great guard at about 230 lbs.
