I went to my first game in 1979, and if I recall correctly, it was the same version that we currently use.

...radio show intro and break music. Russ Castle and Jane Robelot hosted it back then. Would come on at 10 am and run to 12:30 when Jim Phillips would interview Danny Ford and begin the talk atmosphere for the game to kickoff at 1 pm.

(like inside the Brooks Center). The version played at games by Tiger Band at football games now sounds/is just the same as I remember it sounding in the mid-60s.

I don't remember all the details, but the Clemson version of Tiger Rag came to Clemson many many years ago when a member of Tiger Band hitchhiked to Atlanta, found it in a music store, and hitchhiked back to Clemson. I think it was not too many years after the end of WW2. The alum credited with bringing Tiger Rag to Clemson was recognized at a game like 30 years ago and he was an old man.

maybe it is just an orchestral version of which I was not aware. I started going to Clemson games in 1976 (and I was there in 1979) but did not really start paying attention to such things as the music till after we won the Championship in 81.

I was in Tiger Band from 91-97, but my dad has been the press box videographer since 1974, so I grew up hanging around Tiger Band. The version in the OP’s video, we called it “New Rag” and played it every so often, even in the early 90s. But the most often played version (the “regular” version) has always been the same arrangement of Tiger Rag played today. Such has been the case since before I was born in 1973.

I was Tiger Rag chairman for 79/80. This was our version at the time. The present Tiger Paw logo had not yet been adopted for use. Still have a couple of these left and always have one in my hip pocket during games.

The version of Tiger Rag played in the first post was NEVER played at a game.
Obviously, that was simply put into that video.
Attended games as far back as 1956, and the only real changes have been the spelling of Clemson and the unfortunate "woo who".

It was a dixieland version of Tiger Rag. We played it as an
alternate to TR in the late 60's - early 70's.

to "ignore the sheet music, just play it like this" by the upper classmen. It was kind of a frankenstein, with lost of stuff added in. The trombones has some stuff added in that wasn't written down anywhere, the trumpets stole a little piece of the Georgia fight song and added it in, tubas did whatever they did, and lord knows what the percussionists did. I'm not sure i could have even played it if I followed the sheet music. You just memorized it and went along with your section.

...they pretty much played it the same as now. The pregame show with Russ Castle had a funky disco version that they used throughout the early 80's.
Tim Bourett had just come to Clemson from Notre Dame in 79 and probably scratched up this version from who knows where to get the video done.
