Today Kirk Herbstreit said NIL was becoming a disaster
What is the surprise and astonishment for?
Nobody knew this would happen? I’m confused about why all these experts and analysts are so intrigued into this situation.
I think a 5-year old would’ve been able to foresee this kind of thing happening once NIL started.

All of this was bound to happen. People have been warning about it for years. Nico is just the poster child for the problem that has been speculated all along. That is why we have the commotion. We finally have “exhibit A.”

That’s not the situation. This QB held out. Meaning he refused to play without a pay raise despite already making $2M+. That’s much different than “shopping around”.

out a game, and Nico is the only one he's called out by name. So that isn't established fact, but makes for fun on message boards and blogs. Every other credible reporter that looked into it is saying that the ask for a redone deal with Nico was after the playoff loss, before the Dec portal closed.

It’s not the same. Sluka was promised a deal that was not fulfilled. He left because he was lied to to preserve his redshirt.
Nico was getting paid. Over $2M. He demanded more and held out of practice. Allegedly he also threatened to sit out A PLAYOFF GAME unless he was paid more, during pregame.

It's not literally the same situation but the premise is the same. Sitting over money because there's apparently no stipulations about having to play. Why the third party NIL collectives are a huge problem since it's all clouded in secrecy. Coaches should despise them.

I can see your point, but I view them very differently.
One of them stopped showing up to work because work refused to pay them. I'd quit my job, too. By quitting, the player assured himself that 25% of his career would not be wasted by preserving a red-shirt.
The other one stopped showing up to work because work was only paying him what work agreed to pay him. Player: "I want more I want more". Collective: "You are being paid based on the terms of your contract". Player: No show, no communication. School: "Violation of attendance policy, adios".

It's all about the benjamins, baby.
ESecPN makes their money with clicks and eyeballs. "Controversy" brings both. They have no genuine outrage or take...it's simply them riding the story up and down. And that's part of the NIL thing that really goes ignored is that these kids are being treated like commodities as the byproduct of a crappy sports network.
Heck, Heather Dinnich was a mole on Paul Finebaum's #### that grew purely from ESPN home-brewed koolaid.

I still think the NIL unfettered free agency fiasco has much further heights to reach. I guess the Haslems were outbid by UCLA entertainment money for their QB. Of note, Jimmy still has a sour taste in his mouth after placing the highest bid on D. Watson so I am sure that echoed in his mind when saying no mas in Knoxville.

Crazy part is Nico’s brother was committed to ucla and on national signing day he flipped to Arkansas. Crazy ucla would go after Nico after that fiasco.
