They have been in steep decline for several years now, and even after bolstering their ranks with blue blood programs like Texas and Oklahoma, are still unable to even make the national championship game, much less win it. The only correlation I can find, and I’ve studied this carefully, is that the SEC’s drop from elite status coincides with the advent of the portal/NIL and the SEC’s overuse of them. In hindsight, I think we are lucky Dabo saw the potential ramifications of NIL/portal before many in the SEC did, and as a result, has Clemson trending up, while the entire SEC is trending down.

In the past team like Alabama, Tennessee and others replaced one 5 star with another. Now those 5 and 4 stars realize they can make it to the NFL no matter where they play college ball. Also they are leaving for paydays. Every team some limit to funds available for nil payouts.

Parity. Portal has evened the playing field. Bama, UGa can’t hoard players. SEC teams beat each other up during the regular season. Proud that Clemson offense showed some fight vs great Texas D. Klubnik improved dramatically over last season. Hope a change of leadership on D will restore the edge. Gotta stop the run first. Somehow Wes lost sight of that fundamental. Excited for next season.

That’s it FM. The deep pocket private money NIL does not exist in SEC country like it does at some of these other programs. If Cal and Stanford got serious about football, they have more billionaire alumni than all of the SEC combined.

hope you are right and we will find out because LSU is looming and signed a great class and the number 1 portal class. they will come to Clemson with a loaded roster this year! I think we had more needs than just 3 portal signees but time will tell.

You do have to wonder about the future of the SEC. All good things come to an end. Today is my birthday so I will use this analogy. They kind of reminds me Chuck E. Cheese pizza. That place was so great when I was a kid, but now it's just a shell of it's former self. The stuffed robots barely work, the video games aren't modern enough, and nobody is there. Now everyone goes to Dave and Buster's. The SEC needs to get with the times or I just don't see how it will work for them in the long haul. I am not saying it is too late by any means, but it is obvious that the SEC is at a crossroads.
