Until Clemson starts paying players the market rate of a top five program, they’re never going to get the best recruits or retained the best veterans. Regardless of what they’re saying, they are not spending anywhere close to the amount of money that the top teams are currently spending.

What game did Clemson play a complete game? They didn't play a single complete game. That's not coming from me, that is coming from the head coach. So yeah, all facets of the game including coaching need to be improved to compete with Ohio State.

Remember when we were in the finals. Remember what those teams looked like...opponents were intimidated during warm-ups.. That is what ohio looks like right now. Nothing but NFL talent at almost every level. They have the highest payroll in NCAA-F history and it shows. 2 of their studs are from last years Alabama team... Free agency in college football sucks. It's unfortunately where we are...with no salary cap.
My buckeye buddy is thrilled to have the best players off of everybody else's team. He's a graduate and could care less where his players come from, if they are loyal to OSU or not, or if they are even attending classes. He doesn't care...just win...that's the current state of college football.

I can't identify with the Buckeye guy's view of that. So you outspent everyone to buy the best college, and I repeat college, football players. Doesn't move the needle much for me.

Get a bigger and more athletic O line and D line. Have a better running game. Better defensive backs. We have fallen off since BV and Tony Elliott have left. Dabo to succeed has to have a great staff around him and that fits not exist at this time.

We've been playing the modern game of talent acquisition with one hand tied behind our back---for ZERO REASON. Our recent record against our peers and these staff changes proves it.
With that said, we should:
* Continue to prioritize taking HS kids and development. BUT, better start matching what recruits are being offered at peer schools rather than relying on the old..."once you come in and you prove it" philosophy. Sure that is the ideal, wish that would work. But it doesn't. Not with today's reality. We still sign really good talent, just not enough.
* Increase number of offers a small bit. Don't need to offer 4-500 kids like some. But when you offer only 70 ±, you give yourself ZERO room for misses. Like NONE. Stop the self-imposed silliness.
*Use portal to fill holes. You can't avoid holes in this new era. Culture doesn't prevent holes and the ONE THING that kills culture faster than anything is losing games you shouldn't/underperforming. Some of the same kids you are protecting are now bailing on you. Always be looking to improve. IF your HS recruiting machine is working well, you should, in most years, only need a select few from the portal.
*DO what your peers are doing in the S&C sector.
Really, small changes would make a HUGE difference. We've made some...not enough...
