Was listening to several POD cast today

And FSU people are talking as they may leave ACC by 2027 season. BIG 10 is really wanting them. Saw another pod cast saying one of there source didn’t mention Clemson as possible to BIG 10 target but he said several other contacts did mention Clemson as possible. My question is there a chance that we are out by 2027 season and pay the 165 million buy out?

If the Big takes FSU they need a partner. Other teams mentioned are Miami, Clemson and USF and UCF. One might think the Big wants in the Florida market and recruiting grounds.

BTW, I think the odds are 80% that FSU and Clemson...

....will be in another conference by 2027, 90% by 2029 and 99% by 2030.
I have no good sense which conference either will be in. If you forced me to guess I would say 80% that Clemson ends up in SEC and 60% that FSU ends up in SEC.

Conferences wont matter regarding the new NFL

model football is heading toward. Clemson will definitely be either “AFC” or “NFC”. Just stay in the ACC for all other sports!

It’s already happening. Many D1 schools have applied to reclassify to D3!

2027 sounds like a possibility. Here is the thinking.

With the exit fee being 165 million today and going down 18 million per year, that is doable for FSU/Clemson/UNC and others.
Those schools are ready to leave as soon as the SEC or B1G is ready to accept them.
Here is the speculation as best I can piece it together.
B1G is wanting to wait until 2030 when their current TV contract expires. But, if the SEC decides to move sooner, the B1G will jump in and try to get their preferred teams before the SEC snatches them.
Here is the big question that nobody knows the answer to: Does ESPN want to keep Fox out of the southest more than Fox wants to get into the southeast market?
The hope, by FSU and Clemson and UNC and Miami and GT and everybody else that wants out of the ACC is that the SEC will try to block the B1G from getting into the southeast (FL, GA, SC, NC, VA - at least some of those states) and offer schools before 2030. Best case scenario is that SEC and B1G (ESPN and Fox) will get into a war over who gets which team.
Worst case scenario is that Fox and ESPN will make some sort of backroom deal and agree to split up the teams in 2030.

Geographically the B1G makes zero sense. We would be in the same boat as Cal and Stanford spending extra multi millions in travel budget. The SEC is the only conference that makes sense geographically and financially.

The Big10 is going to want to pay partial share. Perhaps the same for the SEC. If that’s the case I would hope Clemson finds a way to only move football from the ACC. Figure out the rest later once the realignment madness fevers break and they go back to regional conferences for the other sports.

This is all speculation...But everything I have seen about us going to the B1G

seems to lean toward our academics being a hurdle and everything I have seen about us going to the SEC seems to involve a voting block barring entry of any school in a state with an SEC school already...I am going to assume a TV provider will get involved if we are added to either conference

There is no voting block by other members. If Texas A&M couldn’t & didn’t block Texas from joining the SEC then there is no way Florida & South Carolina can block Clemson & FSU. Do you really think Texas A&M wanted Texas in the SEC? One of the reasons Texas A&M left the Big12 was to get away from Texas. Yet, when it came time they had to accept Texas & fall in line. The same will happen to SC & Florida.

I agree. Nothing happens without a valuation established by a sponsoring tv network. If the move makes money for them then the barriers will be overcome.
