TRANSFER GUARD PORTER

I think he's a nice pick up. But I hope Foster and Buckner challenge the incoming duo (Porter & Johnson) for minutes.

Porter can handle the ball and nearly carries a 1to1 A/T ratio but he's much more of a 2guard. He's been a high volume shooter the past two seasons at MT (shot nearly 7 threes per game last season)

I think Porter and Butta Johnson (who's split roles equally as a starter & 6th man in the AAC the past 2 seasons) need to take a step forward to be legitimate impact players in the ACC next year.

Some of Porter's stats against MT's biggest opponents last season (teams which made NCAA Tourney)

(L)LIBERTY 34m 3-11(1-7) 2-2 FT, 9p, 2r, 2a
(L)@LIBERTY 29m 0-9(0-5) 0-0 FT, 0p, 1r, 1a
(W)LIPSCOMB 35m 4-14(1-6) 5-6 FT, 14p, 8r, 1a
(L)@TENN 33m 3-13(2-9) 0-2FT, 8p, 3r, 0a

He did score 20 in the postseason, a first round loss to eventually champs UT-Chatt. He logged 51 minutes in the 3OT game.

Solid FT shooter but he got to the line just twice in the last 7 games of the season. That must improve.

I'll end this on a positive note - as I actually appreciate Porter's game and what he brings - He went for 20pts ten times last season, including games of 29, 28, 27, 26, 24 (2x).

I think the freshment will get work but with very experienced guards they will be phased in. if these experienced guys are beaten out we've missed recruiting wise

Good feedback

I watched the only full game on YouTube videos so far I could find in the Myrtle Beach Invitational (an 8 team event) championship game vs a good Bradley team. MTSU had a few injuries going on and you could tell they were a very tired team playing their third game in 4 days.
Porter had 50 pts combined in the two previous wins over Ohio and South Florida in that field
Randolph Childress who i respect as a color commentator was saying with their PG out, Porter was more of a scorer and not true PG with their regular PG out was hurt with those injuries and Bradley was focusing their defense on that. Childress had been doing most of the games in MB and was saying that he really liked Porters quickness and shooting ability.

MTSU did also beat a pretty good UAB team on the road against his future teammate Johnson and had about 20 in that game. Also had two good games vs the 2nd best best team in CUSA Jacksonville State with over 20 pts in both of those games. Jacksonville State throttled Ga Tech in the NIT, so can't just base it on NCAAT teams. Look at NET and Kenpom decent teams as well. Think he is going to be a good addition.

Good recap. Like you I think Childress knows his stuff. He is very good doing games and noticing things about players from his coaching days. He especially knows guard play
