I'm not a smart man, but could a football player potentially transfer out of their original school, play for the new school, and be getting aid from both schools? Seems like school number 2 would potentially have a player for basically free while school #1 is covering the scholarship.
Other than that, seems like some good changes. I especially like the transfer windows. As we all know, Clemson has been burned a few times with players transferring right after spring practice or fall camp. Almost forgot, seems like multiple players have dipped out in the middle of the season.

It just protects players from shady recruiting

Once a player enters the portal, they surrender their current scholarship, so school #1 is off the hook. The rule just means that if school #2 offers a scholarship to lure a player in, they can't rescind it until the player reaches the end of their eligibility.

NCAA association with Div. I Football on it's last legs

Still, it's the right call to limit transfer windows as they should not be the primary emphasis of the university and athletic programs. Would not be surprised to see the time windows tweaked.

Midseason - Dixon/Bryant

Interesting to think what their situations would be like now. Both decided to transfer after the season started once it became evident they wouldn’t be starters. They did so to retain an extra year of eligibility (less than 4 games played).
With the new transfer windows, I guess they would have to essentially just quit the team and enter the portal later..

The Portal is not about sports, it is about an education. Sports should be a means to an end but sadly many Portal athletes will reach that end.

Huh? The portal exists solely and specifically for sports.

I like the windows!
And, yep, if it forces a kid to just quit - then good! Less distraction for their old and new team! I still think there is meat on the bone here though. I understand if the position or HC leaves the school you attend wanting to leave. Look at the GT situation for example, your a option QB and the new coach is an Air Raid coach. In that scenario, you should be allowed to leave without penalty. Even if your position coach; who likely had the biggest influence on you coming to that school leaves; I think you give a kid the immediate ability to leave. But, pretty much, only those situations.
Otherwise, are we not telling the kid, quit for greener pastures? Instead of "bearing down and planting your flag in the program and making coaches take notice by your performance"!
But, in today's instant everything(grits, oatmeal, coffee, tea, access, etc.) people want immediate gratification!
***Sorry for that moment of get off my lawn you kids rant***! LOL!
But, good to see at least some type of adjustment to the free for all!

From a Clemson stand point

If they want to go elsewhere, for God sakes, let them go. Clemson offers more than most, nearly all other programs. Really, I doubt any where is better in offering career building skills outside of playing the game
We don't want people who no longer want to be here. Wish them well and build for the future.

""Like their peers in the general student population, college athletes choose to transfer for any number of reasons,"
But their peers would certainly lose any scholarships offered by their current university, and the new university is not obligated to offer them similar circumstances.
