No, it's also taking into account team motivation and the fact that we will very likely have some opt-outs since this is a pointless bowl

Computer rankings like Iowa State a lot

All of their losses were close including a couple of games they should have won. 3 of those losses were also to Oklahoma, Baylor, and Iowa. They also handed Oklahoma State their only regular season loss.
It's going to be a tough, ugly defensive game because they have a good defense that will be able to handle our one-dimensional offense.

There's like every computer ranking out there. On average, Clemson is about 10 spots ahead (15th vs 27th).

I will note that Sagarin (one of the ones I see that tends to most closely matches CFB spreads) does have Iowa State at 8th in it's predictor, while Clemson is 14th. -1 for Iowa State is about right based on those ratings.

Iowa State's home games are a bit different. They are one of those "strange teams" that compete with the best at home if you take their often ho-hum record into account. Another perspective... their "best year" was a 9-3 showing. So.....
Yeah, it is going to be two tough defensive type of game.

Could staff changes impact Clemson's bowl performance? Perhaps, but anyone who plays or watches the modern game in big time environments would never be shocked that a prominent coach moves on and moves up. If they are really good, as Venables was, the team that has them is lucky if they linger even briefly, to say nothing of a decade. They are yours until they become someone else's. The coaching musical chairs are just part of the game, and it happens in every sport at every level.
With the portal, players can have it both ways. Like the coaches and you stay, don't like the changes and you go. If the coach you love moves on, so can you, dance parters on the next gridiron.
Venables will focus at OU the same way he did here, giving it his all until he is fired or promoted in another place to another job. Eventually, Dabo will also move on to something, somewhere. It may not even be football.
The only thing that stays just as it was year after year is the seating plan in the cemetery.

Really doubt Dabo is going to go anywhere. The only place I can foresee him going is Alabama. Even that is a stretch in my opinion. He is Clemson. He is the man here. He has no reason to leave. He is a legend here.

you haven't been paying attention.... Clemson is barely a Top 25 team for a reason.... we're not that good, guys. I mean come on.... lets accept this season for what it is and look forward to a better tomorrow. Not one person on this or any other platform can say who should be favored in this game. I would predict that if Iowa State puts up more than 20 points, we're in trouble.

Well you must I’ve stopped watching because we’ve gotten much better in November. I like Clemson by 10 in this one. But excited to see these teams play.

We have improved vastly and our losses were close to ranked teams. Plus their conference is even ranked below the ACC. We have handled their usual leader Oklahoma easily in last bowl and playoff.

The magic number is 28. If we can score 28 we should win. We are the only P5 team that has not given up over 27 pts in a game this year, although we lost 2 giving up 27.

I would counter that with"Iowa St. Is 7-5 for a reason. They do not win close games, all this they almost beat Iowa, OU, Baylor and Okla St.----well, they didn't. We almost beat Nancy St, GA and Pitt, but did not. But we won close games with these exceptions and won 2 more. It does not matter if we are "BARELY" a top team-----WE ARE---be a Tiger fan or stay mute. JMO.

I agree ISU should be favored. That said, I am **hoping** that the time off will give some time for DJ to rest and clear the mental cobwebs, and time for the offensive staff (whoever is on it) to cook up some variety. For THAT reason, I'd not be quite ready to say that we'd be in trouble if ISU gets 20, but I hear what you're saying. You're not wrong. I just hope the extra time will yield something we didn't see during the season.

Certainly, personnel changes can make a difference. We know what is happening at Clemson. Out of curiosity, anything changing for Iowa State?
Also, we have some terrific seniors- Skalski, Spector, Rencher, Turner, etc.- who will be playing their last game. I'd have to imagine they will be fired up to go out on a winning note. And, I suspect we will be healthier, after a month layoff. When have any of us been able to say this in 2021?
Finally, the Tigers played much better in November. Hopefully this will carry over into this month.
GoooooTigers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is at stake for Clemson is another Bowl victory in the Dabo Swinney era,a Top 20 final ranking and even more importantly a streak that is currently at 10 seasons with double digit wins.No Clemson ain't gonna lose this bowl, the seniors and the Tiger Defense are gonna make sure of that especially 2 of the Seniors in James Skalski and Baylon Spector.

"The Tigers are 3-2 in traditional bowl games over the last five seasons (excluding national title games)."
I guess that's one way to put it... maybe. Your staff will never be accused of being homers!
Before last Sunday aftn, it could also be said that the Tigers reached / were CFP-chosen to 6 of the last 6 semi-final games (maybe mentioning who else has done that - NOOO-BODY!), won 4 of those 6 semi-finals to advance to the championship game, and ultimately won 2 of those championships, beating Alabama once in a hard fought battle - and beating them in the other championship by a slightly larger margin, 44-16.
But that's just me.
