Definitely a business decision that he rather regrets looking back I suppose...

but he would have been greatly denigrated if he had pulled up short to avoid contact. Danged if ya do, danged if ya don't.

Shoulda gone for his legs, or just pushed him out of bounds

By his own admission he was angry and looking for vengeance. That was an emotional mistake. Any cornerback worth a darn who sees a QB lowering his shoulder for a head-on tackle is going to hit that QB extra-extra-hard. Ponder gave him a rare gift.

Wasn't it after the ensuing TD when "We Will Rock You" was first played in DV?

LOL. After 15 years I don't think this is a 'shock' admission (we've all seen that play 100x), but I do respect his candor on the impact it took on him and the mental aspect. Just like many of us, sometimes the better-half has the better [NFL] career.

McDaniel pointing at him and teeing him up for that hit was probably more enjoyable for me than it should've been.

I was surprised when McDaniel did not stick, start and star in the NFL.

Same. He had that lurking like Sean Taylor quality. Big fella in the secondary that's pretty fast and hits like a LB. Surprised he didn't flourish in the NFL.

Not going to lie, probably one of the best father and son moments me and my dad shared. Got him tickets to the game for his birthday the hit was right in front of where our seats were, and we still talk about the hit to this day.

I always thought he gave as much as he got on that hit. But yeah - don't lead

Watch McDaniel’s head on the replay. They would call that targeting today. I miss hard hitting football…

Seem ridiculous except that it’s a Clemson player and there have been some ridiculous targeting calls against us over the years.

I meant the targeting call would have been against Ponder. McDaniel’s head snapped back on impact.
And yes, I know the rulz…

He probably lays in bed thinking " I could've just whiffed on that tackle and been forgiven " and still be playing in the NFL.
QB's , kickers , and punters are comical when forced to tackle.
I always get a kick out of a flying return man who only has to beat one of them in the open field to reach the end zone.
I'm rarely disappointed
