You can't do what Dabo does with backups without having one or two things. He must either feel he has the game under control in the first quarter or be willing to lose the game in order to develop those younger players and expose them to critical situation in which the outcome of the game rides on how they do their jobs. It's probably a lot of both.

How is a great business, company, or team built? By empowering every employee/team member to grow and by giving each one an opportunity to show what they can do. By creating a culture where every member believes he has a chance to play an active part. By making sure everyone prepares in practice and focuses on every play, knowing that his number may be called at any minute. That's what Dabo has done. If Collins re-wrote "Good to Great" or "Built to Last" he'd have to include Dabo and Clemson football.

This sounds right. I think Dabo knows what he is doing. Trust the process. Trying to get ready for the big games to come (hopefully).

First, congrats on an impressive win over Wake. Not only did the team need it, but the fans did also. However, as a diehard fan and Alumni, I have concerns. The new NCAA ruling that allows football players who play in up to four games and then have the option of redshirting, has added more stress to coaches. This is especially true for a team like Clemson who is heavily stacked two and three deep.
This is a different generation, and loyalty is not what it once was. Coach Dabo found this out quickly with Bryant. I assure you that every coach out there with talent two and three deep are concerned.
Coaches like Dabo that are loyal to players may feel the need to play everyone in a game as we have seen this season. However, while trying to make the second and third string happy, what is going through the minds of young men like Etienne and Lawrence, where numbers are very important for their career.
I was not happy that Etienne was taken out of the game with 167 yards. This young man may be up for Heisman where numbers count. Trever looked good, but this is only his second game as starter. Was it really a good idea to cut his time on the field. I am not saying that Brice should have not played, but starters are starters for a reason.
Just Saying.

I think the same thing every game these days. A tough balancing act for sure. Thing is... Dabo always recites team and even some individual stats when doing national interviews, but then seems to care less about them during games, opting to concentrate solely on team depth/experience.

I completely agree with your Trevor logic. I know I keep saying it but the starters need to go deeper into games to get there stamina up while also building continuity. With ETN they are gonna continue to pull him and give carriers to others. It does make me a little sad considering ETN could probably be around 1200 yards right now and a lot more TDs and definitely be talked about as a Heisman contender but it’s the coaches decision.

So, you guys want to risk our starting blue chip QB

getting an injury in a game that's long since been decided, when he already missed nearly all of the game the week before because of injury, when his backup needs, and has earned, playing time, as well?
And you want to pad the stats of a RB and risk injury to him or risk wearing him out before the season is over, when he's run for 370 yds the past 2 games? Again, in a game that has long since been decided.
Dabo doesn't pad stats, and he doesn't recruit guys with the promise of playing time if they earn it, then not play them in a game we could win with our scout team. We're 46-4 in the last 3 1/2 seasons with 3 conf championships, a NC and were a couple of special teams plays from another, 3 consecutive trips to the playoffs, considered one of the best 4 programs in the nation, if not top 2, and people still want to second guess our HC over playing time? *sigh*

ETN needs to get those types of numbers against NC State

in order to gain any real traction for Heisman consideration.
Happy to see NC State jump into the Top 20 this week.
This battle of unbeaten teams is going to be perhaps our only opportunity to really shine on the national stage due to our schedule.
We need to win this one and win it convincingly.
I think we will.

What happens if ETN slips and tears his ACL in a 42-0 game? Something tells me you would be bitching about losing our starting RB in garbage time.

If ETN would have remained in the game, he probably would have had 300 or 400 yards. Which would certainly help his Heisman position.
Just sayin?

I have never understood the figurehead mentality.
The rest of the team should sacrifice their playing time for the stars? No, thanks.
What does Etienne get with a Heisman? A higher draft position? No. A new house for his folks? No. The opportunity to make silly commercials with other elitist 'has-beans' when his career is over? Oh, yeah, that's cool. Oh, name recognition among the under informed, yeah, that's what we want for him.
No, when you play for Dabo, it's a team game, and the awards you win are due to helping your team win.
Almost every awarding body, except the Heisman voters, recognize that. Dabo isn't changing his approach for DW4, or Trevor, or Travis. And he isn't interested in recruiting players who don't recognize that.
I doubt that Dabo will ever have a Heisman winner. But as he said after DW4 won so many awards but not the Heisman: the Heisman people lost an opportunity to be associated with Watson, not the other way around.
If Clemson fans want their individual players' stats to be more important than the team's, maybe you should be rooting for that school in Columbia. Or talk Tommy Bowden into coming back.

Nobody loves scoring more than I do but, yes but, it was against Weak Forest. Now that our coaching staff seems to have an idea of what we can do with the loads of talent that we have. Now lets see if they can put it all together and do the same with the remaining teams we have to play through the rest of the season. What I'm saying is that the teams we have left to play, Weak Forest I think would probably have a 50/50 chance of beating who we have remaining on our schedule!!!
NC State up next with a 5-0 record, and that 5-0 record was against nobody. They beat BC by 5, score 28-23, and WF scored 34 on BC losing by 7 with a score of 41-34. The only team NC State had to date with a pulse was WV, and that game was canceled. IN DV, we should beat the pups as bad as we beat WF in Winston-Salem...
@Florida State, they lost to VT 24-3 @ Dope Campbell, they lost to Syracuse @ Syracuse 30-7, they beat a very bad Louisville team @ Louisville 28-24. Both those teams have hit rock bottom!!! FSU then loses to Miami @ Miami 28-27. But, we play FSU @ Dope Campbell, I think we win, but it could be a close game bc of our history against FSU @ FSU.
Louisville got beat by Bama 51-14, Bama just didn't want to be at Camping World Stadium, Orlando, FL playing a very bad Louisville. They got beat by Virginia 27-3 @ Virgina, they got beat by a bad FSU team 28-24, they just got beat down by GT 66-31. When Louisville comes to DV, and I'm thinking we should beat them by 21 plus in DV, and every able bodied Tigers will get a chance to play in that game!!!
BC, that is a wait and see bc they are 1-1 in conference play as of today, and they have beat WF 41-34 @ Wake, and they have lost to NC State 28-23 @ the puppy park. We will play BC @ Chestnut Hill on NOV 10, and I expect it to be really cold in Boston by that time, and our guys should play really hard to stay warm, and I'll say we win by 14 plus points, and we leave Boston Mass. with a 10-0 record, with those A$S holes still talking #### about us, and trying to talk us out of the playoffs with the hopes of getting two of their SEC sponsored teams in the playoffs!!!
Duke, they have played only ACC team to now, and they lost to VT @ Duke 31-14, but they have beat Northwestern @ Northwestern 21-7, and they have beat Baylor @ McLane Stadium, Waco, TX 40-27, and they beat Army 34-14 in a night game at Wallace Wade in Durham. We don't play the Dookies very much in FB anymore, and I am glad this time around will be in DV. Cutcliffe has done a decent job for the FB program since becoming their HC, and their DC has been there for a while, and since we haven't played them in a while, it good that we have them at DV IMO. They will always be a Basketball first school, but Cutcliffe knows a little something about FB!!!
Then we have our hated FB game in cootlumbia. We really can't call them a rivalry with a straight face, and I do wish we could trade them off for UGA or Auburn without a lake. If that could happen, at least we would have a chance to boost our strength of schedule at the end of the season playing UGA or Auburn over killing our strength of schedule by playing the preseason National Champion Cluckers. That's all there is to be said about that game except for hoping that Mustcan't will say something to really tic Dabo off, and he would allow our coordinators to run up the score to about 70 or 80 points. And then call a timeout with 1 minute left in the game to applaud our senior that will be moving on!!!

can someone please explain...

Why the entire team can’t go to the away games? I can’t find info about rules limiting the number of players at road games. Given how close Atlanta and Wake Forest are, I don’t know why anyone would have to be left out. Are there limits on the number of players on a team? I know there is a limit on the number of scholarships, 85.
I’d hate to have to leave a player behind. They all work out and practice, every one of them.
I know my q’s are basic stuff, and I do appreciate someone taking the time to answer.
