According to Blau from Post and Courier, Titsworth will get the start. Bakich did say he was back and forth about it.
Go Tigers!

I like it. Potentially sets up Bell to carry his momentum forward into a Sunday regional close-out.

Seems like Bakich makes these decisions based on matchups.

Not dumb. Winning the 1st game is just as important as winning the 2nd game. We really need to win both. You put your best against the best (2 and 3 seed) and your 2nd best against the 4th seed. It may or may not work out but you don’t get to make the decision after the game.

The potential for 4th game is not normal and we saw in ACCT we need to be smart with pitching.

That doesn't make sense. This isn't "normal"...it's a double-elimination regional. The opponent isn't the same all weekend like the regular season, and pitching strategy is much more critical.

Exactly. You pitch your best against the best. So you play Knaak tomorrow. Now saying that, we definitely shouldn’t underestimate USC Upstate. That’s why I think EB choose our second best starting pitcher rather than starting a midweek pitcher. You have to make sure you win the first 2 games. So you play your 2 best starting pitchers Friday and Saturday but you let your second best pitch against the weaker team and your ace pitch against the bettor team.

Agree, would be different if we had an ace midweek guy and upstate wasn’t a team that mashed the ball. Remember under Monte when we had Tyler Jackson I believe as our midweek guy and he was really good all year and I think he started the Friday game, could be wrong though.

Tyler Jackson was a great midweek guy for us, never could quite crack the weekend rotation but he was absolute money during the midweek games. It felt like cheating almost.
He didn’t start Friday night in 2017 but threw a complete game shutout against Vandy to keep us alive in that regional.

Thanks for posting. Was waiting for this as Baloch said they would release it today.
Totally agree with this move. If we can't beat upstate with our #2 then we are doomed in this tourney anyway.

Dardy and Garris both cleared to return as well. Need Titsworth and Knaak to go deep and pitch well, but the pitching situation is looking just a bit better than it has recently.

So what...if we can't beat Upstate with anyone other Knaak then we don't deserve to be here anyway. We already shut them out once with midweek guys. This is the correct move, I actually would've gone with lefties since we shut them out with the Bailey/McGovern combo the first time. If we lose, its going to be because of our offense not scoring, not because we gave up a ton of runs.

They can hit but the fact that we shut them out in March predominantly with Jacob McGovern and BJ Bailey makes me feel confident. Titsworth is a better pitcher when he's "on" than both of them.

I can see both arguments, USC Upstate has been dangerous in their conference but the fact that we shut them out this year makes me think Titsworth is more than capable of slowing them down and giving us a chance. We need him to go at least 5, if not 6-7 innings though so we don't put too much strain on the bullpen early.

The next question is what time is the first pitch for Clemson-Upstate. Thunderstorms forecast from noon to 3:00 PM Friday.

Hmm it depends if the Kentucky WVU game is moved up or the game goes over. If that game is able to finish before 5 o’clock and it doesn’t rain again then we should start on time.

Pitch your number 2 in the first game as a 1 seed. Pitch your ace in game 2 regardless (hopefully after a win to go straight to the championship). If we were a 2/3 seed, we would need to pitch the ace first to avoid the loser’s bracket. Get with the program. It ain’t hard. EB has this right.
