Not surprising for the BIG10 because the academic reputations match up and for television market share. The SEC is a bit of a surprise and I do not see the cultures matching up at all but the tv angle is there.

What even is TV market when most every game can be seen anywhere anyways with multiple sub channels like ACCN, B1GN, SECN et all along with the regular channels and streaming stuff like ESPN+? Like what does that even really mean in 2025?

TV viewership is not about markets, it is about brands. The Washington DC or State of Virginia markets do not care about UVA football, period.
If a P2 wants to add UVA for the academic pedigree - have at it, but I doubt FOX or ESPN wants to pony up any extra dollars for them.
These writers, scribblers and talking heads are simply useful idiots distracting people with goofy ideas that the SEC / BIG want to pay UVA top dollar to never be on television.

From a competitive landscape they have won 14 national titles since 2015 across Men's Tennis, Men's Basketball, Men's Baseball, Men's Lacrosse and Women's Swimming and Diving. They have also finished 12th or better in the Directors Cup every year since 2015 (5 top 10 finishes), except one where they were 21st
We've won four. Our best directors cup was 14th with the other years averaging 51st
We just look at it through the singular lens of football.

you were referring to. Oh yeah, and three of those were in football - the sport that draws 70% or more of the TV contract dollars.
Regarding UVA, all of the 15 natties were viewed by less than 1 million people, and 90% of those were for baseball. Clemson football draws a million viewers when we play Wake Forest.
There is no logical argument for a P2 addition of UVA - other than academics pining to rub elbows with UVA. P2 Presidents and their ilk may love the idea, but no one will pay the freight. If Olympic sports and Director Cup ranking mattered Stanford would already be in the BIG, but FOX said no to that idea. Maybe much farther down the realignment process UVA / Stanford types may get added for no cost or at a half payout - think Stanford, Cal, SMU additions to the ACC where they get zero dollars for a decade.

I see reading comprehension is not your strong suit.
I very clearly stated from a competitive landscape, not a viewership angle. It was just about who has more hardware in the last 10 years. UVa is way ahead of us as an athletic department, sans Football.
We've won 4 national titles in the same time span as UVa for the time period I listed out.

I just don't think UVA and UNC alone pull the big ratings football match ups to move the needle for the B1G Ten partners FOX,NBC and CBS. Clemson and FSU would. I'm leaning more of a mix like Clemson/UNC to the SEC and FSU/Miami to the B1G in a USC/UCLA type move.
