This Braves team is the most disappointing I can remember

It wasn’t just the injuries. The players weren’t playing good ball before they were injured. Ozuna was the only one who gave a performance worthy of the preseason expectations. Everyone else sh@t the bed.
I tell you that offseason additions Sale and Perez would win a Cy Young and pitch 135 innings at a sub 2 ERA, respectively, you would think the entire team returning from last year could do something more than this uninspiring season. Where’s anything that resembles the last 7 years?

They started slow ... something they have done before ...
The injuries were just brutal ... Acuna & Strider basically all year ... Harris a couple of months ... Albies two different times ... Lopez - two different stints --- Riley as he was heating up ... Smith (who by the way was the biggest disappointment for me) ... this team played with two outfielders for most of the year who shouldn't still be in the league (Duvall and Kelenic) --- The fact they even made the playoffs was unbelievable ...
Olson until September was a disappointment, Arcia's bat was not enough and Morton is getting a little long in the tooth and started to fade .. despite all this -- in August they were still in a spot to make a run to win the division until Albies and Riley went down ..
They need to resign Fried ... then figure out whether Strider and Acuna will be able to make it back and contribute ... They need an outfielder and a catcher for next year.

Most of that is on the rule changes. Bigger bags and limited throw overs. Travis is even worse! Murphy isn’t the problem. It was the injuries, Riley and Olson disappearing, and every time someone would get a hot bat (Harris and/or Albies) someone else would go cold (Ozuna). If you don’t want to blame it on injuries then the problem this year was terrible hitting.
They’ll be better next year but are they better than Philly and LA? No. That would require spending money to keep Fried, replace Morton, and find a left fielder - which I’d be shocked if it happened.

Spot on assessment. All the injuries contributed to a lack of cohesion. I think if they had won at least one playoff game Snit would be NL manager of the year. Next year looks bright and I can’t wait for pitchers and catchers to report in the Spring.

Harris. D'Arnaud. Sean Murphy. A.J. Minter. Huascar Ynoa. Ray Kerr. Angel Perdomo. Renaldo Lopez. Chris Sale. Jesse Chavez. Eli White.
It's a miracle they made the playoffs at all.

Sorry you missed the 80s? During the Monday - Thursday games, you could drive up to Fulton County Stadium, park 10 rows (or less) from the ticket office, and buy premium seats behind 3rd base. There were more people running around selling stolen jewelry and other goods in the parking lot than were sitting in some sections of the stadium. The best of times. 😉

season like this would have been considered a rousing success. It's all in your expectations.
I find it hard to point to Ozuna as an example of someone who exceeded expectations. True, he had a good season, but Deer Lowered, if he could have reversed WHEN he got his hits, he could have driven in 300 runs, seems like. He would leave runners on base, then get a hit with two outs and nobody on the next time. Or so it seemed. Olsen also had, for him, a down year, even though he still drove in runs.
Hopefully the Braves acquire some bats AND some pitching in the offseason. Otherwise, next year will be more of the same. Built to get TO the postseason, but not through it.

This team has been decimated by injuries from the start. Acuna basically missed the entire season. It’s a huge accomplishment they even made the playoffs.
Certainly not disappointed in them at all. Actually amazed they made the playoffs.

They lost Strider, Acuna, Riley & Minter
Their best player (and reigning NL MVP), their best starting pitcher, their best set up man in the bullpen and their all-star 3rd baseman
Plus Harris & Albies missed a ton of time
It was amazing they made the playoffs at all!

I lived thru the 80s Braves, so this isn't close to the most disappointing team I can remember. At least they made the playoffs.
Injuries was the biggest issue this year. It seems like every time they'd start to get a little momentum someone else would go down and kill it. The GM has some decisions to make this offseason as far as roster moves goes. The nucleus for a great team is there, just need to swap out a couple of pieces for better and they'll be WS contenders again.

Making playoffs and going over 3 million attendance was remarkable. Came up two runs short yesterday. I’m excited about next season. Acuna, Ozuna, Olsen, Harris Riley, Strider Sale Fried Schwllenbach, Lopez - one or two pieces away from a team that should compete with LA PhI NY SD Ariz Mil

INJURIES... yes that was the whole cause of mediocrity this year. It was almost ALL about the injuries. Good grief.

Clearly you were not around in the early 70’s to see them in old Fulton County Stadium. There were two things you could count on back in those days; The Hammer was going to hit one out and the Braves were going to lose in spite of his bat.
My father would always buy tickets to see the Braves when teams with great ball players were in town. …The Mets, the Dodgers, the Big Red Machine…. I can recall Chief Knock-A-Homa doing a war dance on the mound before the Braves took the field for the top of the first and my father commenting, “That’s not a war dance. That’s a rain dance. That’d be about the only way they don’t lose today.”
