is that if they had a 20 team playoff; we wouldn't have made it.

I’d rather him guarantee national championships than bowl appearances. Some coaches strive for championships and some can only strive to make the postseason, but I’m psyched to follow both types at Clemson.

Even under the 12 team CFP, an ACC team is gong to have to win the conference to get in. Odds of another ACC non conference winner making the new 12 team playoff are going to be slim to none. This is going to put a lot of pressure on ACC teams who want to play for a natty. Teams in the SEC and the BIG with 2 losses will be ranked higher than most 1 loss ACC teams. While it is not a conference game, winning the UGA opener just became a huge game.

12-team playoff will look something like this, for the conceivable future:
ACC champ SEC champ B1G champ B12 champ highest ranked non-Power4 champ
SEC championship game loser Ohio State or Michigan, whichever is not B1G champ
SEC team SEC team SEC team B1G team Notre Dame, unless they suck in which case there may be a B12 team or maybe a Cinderella team
Note: defunct PAC-whatever was supposed to get a team in too, but now that they are the PAC-2 I don't see that rule applying.

I think this year, we'd have had this in 12-team playoff
1 B1G Champ Michigan 2 Pac12 Champ Washington 3 B12 Champ Texas 4 SEC Champ Alabama 5 ACC Champ FSU 6 At-large Georgia 7 At-large Ohio State 8 At-large Oregon 9 At-large Missouri 10 At-large Penn State 11 At-large Ole Miss 12 GOF team Liberty (perhaps SMU if committee knew it actually meant being in the playoffs)
SEC, 4 B1G, 3 PAC, 2 B12, 1 ACC, 1 GOF, 1
