on a message board are in agreement concerning cable news. Network news isn't much better.
However, the fact should be obvious that this is being presented as news should be troubling. When I'm in a waiting room in public, most often CNN is being played on the TV.
I am making an assumption, but I would guess at least 70% form their opinions based what they are told.
To me, this is especially troubling when we are arguing over sending unsolicited mail ballots, which, based on voter participation percentages, is going out to a lot of people who do not care enough to either request a ballot or go to the polls. I would also assume that these people are uninformed for the most part. Hopefully, these people will make a guess or throw their ballot away without turning on the TV.

Network news isn't much better.
Maybe it's not much better, but it's better. The big reason is because it's not trying to get ratings 24 hours a day, which causes the cable news networks to turn themselves into personas, so that people keep watching all day--or keep the channel on in waiting rooms. Network news, at least what I tend to see, has some national news but a lot of it is local to where you live, which means it's not the same doofus stuff they do 24-7 on CNNFOXMSNBC.
However, the fact should be obvious that this is being presented as news should be troubling.
Well, it's under "Analysis," which--I don't know, is that supposed to be like an Op-Ed? I don't know because I never look at CNN except when Tnetters link to it. It's a garbage dump.
I am making an assumption, but I would guess at least 70% form their opinions based what they are told.
When I say stuff like that, I'm told I'm an elitist and underestimate how brilliant the American people are. But yes, that's why CNN/FoxNews/MSNBC zombies mindlessly repeat what their favorite channel tells them. 70% is a sad number but possibly true.
To me, this is especially troubling when we are arguing over sending unsolicited mail ballots, which, based on voter participation percentages, is going out to a lot of people who do not care enough to either request a ballot or go to the polls. Yeah, is it Australia that makes voting mandatory? Seems like an awful idea. We don't need to add noise to the numbers, which is all it would be if uneducated doofuses were forced to make choices about things they don't care about.

Not sure if you are being facetious here, but I think making voting mandatory is completely contrary to the American ideal of freedom. I'm all for making voting easy and accessible. I think it is unwise to make it less secure. As I said yesterday, if we are just going to send out ballots to everybody, we need to remove all rules at the polls. After checking IDs, we can pass out ballots at the door and people can fill them out in the parking lot or take them home and bring them back when they are done.

Wasn't being facetious in the slightest.

I'm in agreement with you: make voting very accessible to everyone. As far as sending everyone ballots, I haven't really thought about it.

Really does depend on where you are. I sadly have to travel to Oklahoma now and then for work and between home (SC) and there I haven't seen anything but FOX on any public TV. I don't know the last time I saw CNN on a TV.
