Takeaways from attending SMU Game

Just returned to Savannah from yesterday's ball game.
- Props to Christopher Vizzina and TJ Moore. Vizzina far surpassed my expectations. Vizzina started slow and was late on some throws, but played as well as Cade has this year in just his 1st start. He hit some deep balls and would have had one more had Wesco not dropped a bomb right in his hands (sun may have been in his eyes). - Fans were fairly accepting near my seats. Few expressions of anguish or pain. More the sounds of settling on this season not meeting expectations and life moving on. Kind of a post-disappointment mind set. - It was a beautiful day. The stands seemed about 90% full but were mostly quiet. The ladies took advantage of the Indian Summer by sporting their summer clothes. Job well done. - Unsure where this season goes from here. But Dabo and coaches have lost this team. Moving forward, however unlikely, it makes sense to give the QB reps and most player reps to the young men who may choose to return to the Clemson roster next season. - I will be surprised if sophs Bryant Wesco and TJ Moore do not exit via the portal. Both are very talented and will have many options to play for squads with talented QBs who can help their NFL draft stock. This is another reason to start Vizzina - any chemistry between Vizzina and these super sophs may move Moore and Wesco to consider returning in 2026.
Que Sera, sera. Always a Tiger!

They were offered allot of money out of high school. I don’t think we were the highest bidder.

Wait and see , I’ll be shocked if they stay. They have had 2 years at Clemson. I’ll be willing to bet that they end up in the sec or somewhere with a proven qb next year. Just my take. But I’d love to see them Stay. Vizzina one game performance against a bad defense is not anything to base his performskxe off of. And he did ok in my opinion

Why would they want to stay?

Both have NFL aspirations. They want to play with a great QB and play on a team with playoff aspirations. We are unlikely to offer either next year.

scouting and pilfering the best players on bad teams (i.e. CB Delane from VTech.) That's the new model of college football. Should be what we're doing as well. We did it with Heldt from Purdue. Alot of these teams are looking at High School recruits as the secondary market nowadays.

In my opinion Vizzina played OK. He is not a RPO QB. He is a pretty good pocket passer.
There was a lot of misreads of the RPO plus he isn't a very quick runner. We had 3 three and outs. I was dissappointed Dabo didn't give Pearman a least one chance. He runs the rpo much better. Maybe Vizzina can get better at it with experience.
If we stick with Vizzina we need to go to more of a pro type offense.

We had 6 three-and-outs. And a four-and-out which is essentially the same thing.

Agree on the subdued crowd and sundresses (shoutout to the ladies).
But the fact is, the product on the field is about as poor as I've witnessed since the latter part of Tommy Bowden's tenure, and probably goes back to the Tommy West days. We don't play defense anymore. The team is soft.
Also agree on Vizzina. At this point, they have got to play him so he can develop some chemistry with Wesco (I assume he's going to be OK, I've heard the hospital visit was precautionary) and Moore. If they don't play CV, both are almost certainly gone.
The program is in dire straits.......
