I love watching this team play and I'm sure Brownell is a great guy and good coach, but he's just not the guy to take this program to the next level or even get it back where OP had it.

So all of these years we have been playing basketball with zero championships, and not a single final four appearance, and you think it has more to do with our coach.
That's rich.

Not just a coach, but a recruiter and leader of the program.
OP's style gave us an edge and gave athletes a reason to come to Clemson. We're not getting "basketball players" when we are recruiting against Duke and UNC.

I long for those days or Purnell. You know, the guy that left us looking like complete fools by leaving the premier basketball conference ....for DePaul.
Let me guess, you're still with the girl you lost your virginity to?

He left for money we weren't willing to pay him, but we should have.
He should haven been the highest paid coach on campus relatively speaking.

He won at Clemson, who cares what he's doing at DePaul.

It's so hilarious how people like this show up like clockwork. Probably hasn't posted since January 24th cause he's had nothing to say.

I will take Brownell's coaching skills of Purnell's any day.

Brad just needs to get two or three more players with the skill level of Grantham, and we will be fine. As far as Purnell, they is a reason he has never won a NCAA tournament game. When your game plan is basically, steal the ball and get a layup, that works great against mediocre teams, but you will seldom beat Duke, UNC, Louisville or Syracuse with that strategy.
One statistic I remember from the Purnell era. When we pressed, 40% of the time the other team broke it for a layup. I am sure that percentage was much higher against the better teams.

Except that Purnell did win games against a much better ACC than what Brownell has faced the last 5 years, and even played for an ACC championship.
Brownell may be a better coach, but he's not better at building a program than OP. By year 5 we were winning 20+ games a year and going to the NCAA's on a regular basis.

1. OP had bit a clue about the game of basketball. He taught a press. If it worked we won. If it didn't, then we lost.
2. Trevor Booker asked BB to "teach him how to play" before the NBA combine/draft. Then convinced his brother to stay so he could learn how to play. 4 years and he didn't have a clue. ....hmm mom
3. ACC is stronger now than it ever has been. We added 4 legit teams since OP left. Weaker my ###.
4. OP's wife made him leave town. He got caught hammering an AD employee (whom still has a job somehow) and had to leave. He didn't even tell the team before he left. High character guy there let me tell ya.

1. Whether you liked his style or not, he won games.
2. Link?
3. Yes, this year the ACC is very strong, the last 4 not so much.
4. That may be true but it's also true that DePaul gave him half a million more a year.
