Speculation on Acc Dissolved

Led by UNC.
GREG FLUGAUR on his podcast Peek Around The Corner (PATC) stated in his monolouge that he had received info. from a UNC money perch (some one in the know, maybe BIG Donor) who said that UNC was going to lead the efforts to dissolve the ACC. SUPPOSEDLY UNC has 10 teams lined up who will vote to dissolve the ACC. A new conference including those 10 teams will form a new smaller conference using pvt.equity funds. Media rights would go to streaming service providers who want to get into streaming college football. Flugaur gives more details as to why UNC is going to lead the effort. End of Flugaur info.
This is my thoughts. I think a 12 team league with each team playing all members with 1 out of conference game would be a good conference. Only 12 teams to split the money, less travel for all sports, conference Championship game and winner gets into CFP. THE NEW CONFERENCE COULD SCHEDULE basketball games against big 10, which would increase tv revenue. Supposedly the SEC and BIG are going to schedule games against each other and no other outside teams. This leaves the ACC with no big opponents but could be a good enough lineup for the streaming media.
At least this keeps the ACC speculation going. Bubba Cunningham the AD at UNC AND THE PRESIDENT of Syracuse have in the past supported pvt. Equity in college sports. Bubba would be a candidate for the new conference commissioner. Another John Swofford?
Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just putting this here because it will at some point be covered by some sports writers.

Not many outside of NC want to see

UNC vs Duke in Football. Or Wake and NCSU. If they are cutting some dead weight, that’s fine but it may mean going to the west coast more.
Outside of 4 or 5 teams the ACC just doesn’t draw eyes. Getting into that commitment is no better than staying in the ACC as it is now.
Better to leave all together.

I doubt this is even as attractive to Clemson as the ACC is. We have always liked to mix it up with other southern powers out of conference.

Looking at their home attendance even UNC and Duke fans don’t want to watch UNC and Duke football!

Any version of the same old ACC isn’t an improvement IMO.

I’m all for dissolving the ACC, but I think this model you described would not work. I wouldn’t even watch it, much less the rest of the country.

It's pretty much what we now have. I could see the following 12 teams.
CLEMSON FSU UNC NCSU VT VA DUKE Louisville Miami GT Syracuse Pittsburgh
A decent FB schedule, excellent basketball and baseball schedule. A GOOD TRAVEL SCHEDULE FOR ALL SPORTS. IF THE SEC/BIG ARE NOT GOING TO SCHEDULE ANY GAMES WITH ANY OTHER TEAMS OUTSIDE OF THOSE 2 CONFERENCES, AND DO NOT ADD ANYMORE TEAMS, THESE 12 TEAMS DON'T HAVE MUCH OF A CHOICE. STREAMING GAMES BY NETFLICK, AMAZON, YOU TUBE, APPLE, HULU, ETC. WOULD PROVIDE A MEDIA PLATFORM. THE FUTURE IN COLLEGE SPORTS AND MAYBE IN PRO SPORTS IS GOING TO BE STREAMING. ESPN HAS ALREADY SAID THEY ARE MOVING AWAY FRIM CABLE TO STREAMING. PLUS, THE PVT. EQUITY MONEY WILL HELP SUPPORT THE ENDEAVOR. WITH ONLY 12 TEAMS DIVVING UP THE PIE, I COULD SEE EACH TEAM MAKING 80 MILLION A YEAR. NOT AS GOOD AS SEC/BIG, BUT BETTER THAN NOW. WITH A 4 TEAM CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFF, IT WOULD ADD AN EXTRA GAME FOR TV. IF THE SEC/BIG DEVIDED TO EXPAND, WITH THE ACC DISSOLVED, IT WOULD ALLOW AT LEAST SOME OF THE TEAMS TO JOIN THOSE 2 CONFERENCES AS THEIR MEDIA RIGHTS WOULD NOW BE FREE FROM ACC.
UNC IS NOT HAPPY ABOUT THE CROSS COUNTRY TRAVEL FOR ITS OLYMPIC SPORTS. IT DID NOT WANT THOSE WEST COAST TEAMS ADDED TO LEAGUE. ADDING MORE TEAMS JUST DILUTED THE PIE EVEN FURTHER. THE SEC/BIG WILL DOMINATE COLLEGE FB IN EVERY RESPECT. IF YOU ARE A TEAM ON THE OUTSIDE LOKKING IN, YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT A WAY TO SURVIVE IF YOU WANT TO COMPETE. I THINK THAT IS WHAT UNC IS TRYING TO DO. BECAUSE OF TRAVEL, THEY WOULD PREFER THIS 12 TEAM DEAL OR BEING A MEMBER OF THE SEC.

Under the current arrangement, we have four non-conference games, but under the proposed schedule we would have only one. I wouldn’t like that, and I don’t think many other people outside of local fans would either.
It wouldn’t leave room for scheduling teams like Georgia, LSU, Notre Dame, etc. We would be missing out on too much good southern football and national exposure.
The future of college football, I believe, is going to have two or maybe three super conferences with two divisions each. The process has already started obviously. I think from the ACC they would like to add Clemson, FSU, and of course the ever beloved Miami. UNC could be in the mix, and if so, Duke for basketball more than football.

No chance. The PAC12 offered a streaming media rights deal to its membership.
Now, it’s the PAC2.

I'm not in agreement with anything that comes out of UNC.

Don't let the 'B1G and SEC are only going to play one another,' fool you into thinking that those two conferences will ignore Clemson, FSU and the other teams in the ACC which draw eyes to the TVs.
Imagine someone telling you that they walked past an open suitcase filled with $100 bills laying on the sidewalk. That's what suggesting that the B1G and SEC are going to leave Clemson and FSU by the wayside.

I am afraid Clemson and FSU need to be at least ACCCG worthy consistently to ensure SEC or B1G locks. Even if we back in this year, we need to win it.
The SEC/B1G bias is even more apparent this year and last and has spread to the committee. If Oregon runs the table in the B1G PreTENd and Texas in the SEspnC, what does that tell you about those two conferences?

Neither conference needs Clemson or anybody else as they are right now. They may want to expand but would not surprise me if they were happy where they are.
Yes there would be the potential for more tv money but the potential of not gaining much per school may make it ho hum. Just more folks to share it with.

Clemson should vote to dissolve the ACC. This would allow for free negotiations with SEC and BIG without the GOR issue.

Kind of see how things could eventually go in this direction. Multiple companies or individuals have skin in the deal and I’m sure they will work hard to make it competitive.
I still see things changing in the very near future that will change the status quo. If the SEC and B1G break off #### on them. They have probably had their own deal worked out for a while.
My question would be if you broke away from the NCAA would that mean you get none of the payout coming next year?

Dissolve and start over with a better structure. Dump some of the complete dead weight schools and focus on those with at least some fan base.
I thing streaming is a good idea. Broadcast rights money is likely to dry up, esp once pharma commercials are no longer allowed. That's a big media buyer taken out of the market, and good #### riddance, too.
