Dabo has pretty much abandoned it.
Little sour taste having a homegrown SC kid running wild in DV dressed as a coot.

He wasn't a fit for Dabo's program.

He was the type of QB we used to recruit until something changed within this program's recruiting profile.

Well he grew up in a gamecock house for one. For 2 he's not a good passer and idc what you are any gamecocks want to say about it. He had 2 straight up dropped ints(1 would've been a house call) and a few more that were close.

I disagree. People used to say the same about Cam Newton. Sellers has a bad OL and WRs and still excels.

The other poster is right. He's not really all that good of a passer. The truth is, the reason they are good is because of the defense. They don't have to be for fishing on offense because their defense keeps the opponent from scoring many points and always keeps them in the game. That allows for them to be pretty conservative on offense and rely on running, whether it's by the quarterback or the running back. If their defense wasn't that good. They wouldn't be able to get away with that on offense.

He was a UNC fan. Not a Gamecock fan at all (dude just made that up). No one really pursued him in SC and he didn't have a dog in the fight. South Carolina swooped in and stole him from Syracuse after their other QB didn't pan out. We could have gotten him, but didn't want to hurt anyone's fee fees.

Sellers is l8ke a much better runner than our former backup QB Taisun Phommachan.
As far as passing proficiency, Sellers and Phommachan are similar.
IDC if LaNorris Sellers is another Bo Jackson. In a monolithic run based offense in which Sellers and RB Sanders are the only legit threats, every team with defensive talent of Clemson’s caliber should never allow 10 points to this version if S.Carolina’s offense.
S.Carolina’s strength is their defense, especially their DL. They’ve also got a couple of hammers in their defensive backfield and also two good CBs. We did a good job of avoiding catastrophic mistakes such as fumble return for TD or Pik-6, but should have scored more points.
Obviously.

He is a great kid. We just missed on him like we have several of the instate kids. Beamer is recruiting like Dabo use to.

Terrible missed evaluation. I saw this kid several times in high school and it was obvious even to a layman he was a great player. But we went with the higher ranked Vizzina. Lazy recruiting. We couldve and shouldve had him in orange. There is a ton of talent in this state and it pains me to see most of them signing with the coots b/c we pass.

Beamer took over recruiting back during the Spurrier era and SC high school coaches loved him (source from a current and past coach who is a Clemson fan) and was top recruiter for this state. This was after Dabo fired Napier who held that title before Beamer. It wasn't until Beamer left SC that our instate recruiting returned because the HS Coaches all did not like the arrogance of Steve Jr. Now that Beamer has been back and definitely secured his coaching tenure for a while, he owns this state again, as it appears we have taken it for granted.

I agree. The staff needs to pay more attention to our local kids. I know a lot of people say we dont have many D1 players in this state, but I don’t completely agree with that. There are many underrated kids who just don’t get looks here. Sure, we don’t have FL, TX, or GA numbers but we need to be giving our local kids opportunities instead of falling back to 3 stars in other states to fill up our roster.

Better watch the Westside High kid from Anderson who wanted a Clemson offer but is going to sign with the coots - has looked really good this year..... and we lost our 2025 QB commitment and still didn't offer.

So, you were "all in" on a 3 star QB from Florence?

He was really good in HS, but wasn't on the radar as a top college QB. They got a good one. We can't get them all.

Lol Dabo recruited two 5 star QBs in DJ and Cade who were expected to be the next best thing in college football. They both sucked.....Lanorris Sellers was a 3 star nobody that the coots lucked up on
I remember at the end of DW4 college career everyone said, Clemson will be lucky if they have another QB like that over the next decade. Guess what? Dabo hit the jackpot again with TL16. It took a lot of luck for those QB recruits to pan out the way they did
My point is, when it comes to QB recruits, there's no science about who will pan out and who won't. To sit here and criticize Dabo for not going all in on some South Florence nobody while having two 5 stars on the roster is stupid criticism

You simply cannot expect a dude of that caliber being such a bust. And quite honestly, is one of the factors for where we are right now. We had some bad coaching decisions and other misses too, but whiffing on a QB that was nowhere close to as advertised is not easy to overcome. Cade on the other hand seems to be a late bloomer and on the Bo Nix plan. We really could have used Lagway.

I mean, there is a science. As I showed yesterday in another post, 22% of 5 Star QBs since 2005 have won a national championship. Only .16% of 3 Star QBs have. Clearly there is a science to it. And 4 times more 5 Stars have won titles than 3 Stars. So while you can have misses, there's clearly something to ratings.
And you can also tell how good a player is by watching them play (you honestly can tell who might be great as early as middle school) or just by looking at their stats. For us, we pursued Vizzina. He played in a bad Christian league. As a senior, he had 1,800 yards, 16 touchdowns, and 7 interceptions. He added 300 yards on the ground. He finished last at the Elite 11. LaNorris Sellars played only 7 games because of an injury, but he had 18 touchdowns and 2 interceptions and added 500 yards and 10 TDs on the ground. And he did it against better competition.
Vizzina wasn't a 5 Star in any metric. I don't know where that myth comes from.

I wasn't talking about Vizzina. I was talking about the 2 highest rated quarterbacks in the country on our roster at the same time (DJ and Cade)
Why are you bringing up Vizzina? Hes irrelevant but even Vizzina was more highly touted than Lanorris Sellers.

Vizzina has a very good arm, and is also a good runner. From what we’ve se3n, Vizzina throws a nice spiral and is accurate. Allegedly, he is receptive to coaching.
Vizzina was brought in as a QB who neither he nor our coaches expected to play much until after CK2 departs. Barring injury to either Vizzina or CK2, the plan is for 2025 to be an offense bonanza with a fully matured CK2 being the Clemson version of Bo Nix and for 2026 team to be another offense bonanza with a RS Jr (fourth year player) QB Vizzina leading the way.
Maybe Sellers will develop into a very good passer and become the nect Cam Newton, former TX Heisman QB Young, or Jalen Milroe. I doubt it, though. He’ll end up being a much better version of Taisun Phommachan.
