So the ACC Commish wants to pursue ND playing our top teams more

often for added media value but won't push the same within our own conference for an even greater payout? Saying - we're all in on rotating league schedules featuring much national dead weight every season instead of loading up one division with our best draws to play more often, but yeah, let's do that with an outsider and ride their coattails for extra crumbs?

Phillips is a clown and way, way over his head here.

They are having the better teams play more often. That was the whole point in eliminating the divisions.

And should pay Clemson every year we play them. If they really think it helps them. And the payment is to Clemson not the ACC.

It's an improvement over the prior amorphous non-sensical division structure but only fractionally, and it still wildly varies from season to season and team to team with so many programs now.

ND PROPSED PLAYING CLEMSON EVERY YEAR, NOT PHILLIPS. ND IS LOOKING OUT FOR ND.

PHILLIPS HAS NO CLUE ABOUT ANYTHING.

"Multiple athletic directors told ESPN this could also involve using the ACC's relationship with Notre Dame to strategically create more games against the conference's top-tier teams."

I hope we DO NOT play ND every year. It helps them much more than us, for example sos! I frankly can’t stand ND! They are only out to help themselves and ACC commissioner seems to go right along!

I believe it would help us more than them. Notre Dame would of course

like to make sure they're SoS is good, but they will be fine with or without us. I think after seeing this year, we need to make sure our SoS stays good. Having Notre Dame each year would be a big benefit to that. Also, if we are looking to get more money our way to being a better "brand" and having more eyes on us, Notre Dame will be a big boost. That game will always be a high ratings game and will help Clemson's avg viewership over the course of the season to show we are one of the top attractions in the game.

You can want to believe that, but it's not true.

Playing another top team isn't going to help us get in the playoffs as an at large if we lose.

It definitely helps ND to play top competition as they can only get in as an at large.

ND has always put ND first as they should be doing, and it would be best if all schools would follow the foot steps that ND has always taken with ND first, everything else is a far second...

The point of removing divisions was getting the top 2 teams in the ACC championship.

Unless they are skewing the schedule the division change doesn't directly make teams play each other more.

They changed it because the networks want better matchups. This was done before the playoff format changed. It does make the better teams play each other more often. They had actually mentioned before Cal Stanford and SMU join, that they had a formula so you would play all the teams in the conference in a shorter amount of years, which means that the better teams would see each other more often. They still stuck to that somewhat, even though the formula had to change with the addition of the other three schools.

Unfortunately for the league breadwinners this also equates to playing the lesser teams that weren't in our division just as frequently. That the ACC saw fit to pull the plug on our annual games with Ga Tech and NC State, two long-time rivals that offered historic and competitive aspects that generated very decent ratings in some of our better markets, in order to placate a more state-centric scheduling for the NC teams, shows how little leadership understands what drives the financial boat with scheduling.

SMU was a decent add as they have a football history and are clearly All In as an institution in this area. Watering the league down further though with Stanford and Cal alongside, two football deadweights, compounds our issues gaining national interest and traction.

ACC Commish wants ND playing our top teams...

because ND wants it.

ND realizes that the conferences are about to go to 9 regular season conference games and this is going to make it difficult for ND to put together a favorable SOS during the regular season.

ACC should discuss backing off the ND games and it could force ND into looking at a conference to join...

They should be forced into a conference, any conference. As an independent school they have the advantage over conference teams by being able to just about determine what their win/loss record will be at the end of every season bc they choose who and when they play other teams that are in a conference...

You can't directly Force Notre Dame into a conference. There's no mechanism to do that.

The ACC would be the best conference in sports if the commissioner would get serious with pushing ACC schools to push harder with building stronger FB programs over any of the other sports...

People keep saying this, but that's not the problem. These ACC schools simply can't push it's hard for football is a lot of these schools from other conferences. The ACC schools are mostly smaller, on average, compared to schools from the other conferences. They have smaller enrollments, and thus smaller fan base is, and that's why they don't have the resources available that some of these other schools have.

Unfortunately the ACC is simply saddled with too many programs that don't have the resources, or desire, to accomplish this, for football, at the level required to compete at the upper limit. Even with large endowments and such, some schools just aren't going to justify the costs of doing that. Duke, Wake, BC, Ga Tech, Syracuse, Cal, Stanford - they can field competitive teams here and there but they don't have the alumni size or backing to invest the resources it takes in this environment to reach those elite heights and achieve national interest.

people hate ND but that doesn't matter...nobody that makes any kind of decision cares about how you or other Clemson fans feel about Notre Dame.

We complain bc the ACC doesnt make us enough money as compared with the Big10 and SEC and then now we complain bc the ACC wants to make us more money??? All bc we dont like the team??

People watch the Irish and make other people money..incl us and the ACC.

I'll add in terms of scheduling better in conference games...all schedules are made with great intentions and predictions on what to expect with teams, however, we have no idea hoe it'll end up. Our Louisville game could end up being a top 10 matchup or they could limp into that game at 6-3 or worse....see FSU this year.
