I totally understand those who are just appreciative of what the team has been doing.
But this is the same type of thing Dabo would say during the DJ era
**Lots of you have been taking this line literally and personally
So many of you are so ignorant that you assume everything off one line of my posts.
I was talking about the mere word appreciation and the context it’s spoken in.
What Clemson fan in their right mind would ever think this baseball season is actually the same situation as the DJ era?
I will keep explaining and clarifying for the simpletons who see every other word as something to twist.
Appreciation is a responsibility of the fans, I agree
But appreciation is irrelevant from the standard
Our standard now in baseball is to play good enough to win the national championship
Would y’all appreciate it so much if we repeated the same pattern, finished good enough to host but did not make it through to Omaha?
The team does not turn its back to the mistakes they make during games. Boneheaded plays that a team who wants to make it to Omaha can’t make.
Like McLaddie falling in right field multiple times
Yes, players make errors. But our defense has consistently shown that they can be perfect. No mistakes.
That is the expectation of them. They know it. They agree with that.
So While it’s important to appreciate where this program is right now
It’s also just as important that we know what the expectation is and what our standard is
We have not made Omaha in more than a decade

Bakich says it best "Happy, not satisfied". We know it's been like 15 years since the last trip to Omaha. The one thing that you need to make it to Omaha is to win consistently. They're doing that. There's many ways to make that happen. This team just does it in a way that is less visually appealing. Still plenty of games left. I don't see many teams that play as consistently as they do so we can pick apart just about everyone. Go Tigers!

We can be critical of some things like the defense at times, leaving runners on base, and the inability to nail down three consistent weekend starters (we always seem to have 2 good guys and the third is a wild card.)
I will listen to those fans, they make sound points and when you look at this season in a vacuum. We keep winning but we don’t necessarily “feel” like an elite team. I get that, but you can win national titles in baseball by not being an elite team, just a team that gets scorching hot at the right time… not so much in football or basketball.
However, I won’t listen to the people who try and say they we aren’t a great team. 35-7, on pace to have potentially the best regular season record since the early Leggett days… and doing it against formidable opponents. Our SOS is near the top of the country and we are still winning, so we aren’t beating up on the deaf and blind every week.

Without a doubt we have been a great program. IMO our standard is to compete at the highest levels but winning a NC in baseball requires lots of things to happen some of which are outside of our control.

Team who have won it have always had the best pitching
And that’s what we’ve lacked
And of course that is our standard because
1) Bakich says it
2) We’ve always been a top-10 baseball program at least top-10
3) We are good enough to do it

Standard means level of attainment. Since we have never won a NC then that is not our standard. Words mean things and explaining the misuse of the word does not help. We have been a very good program except the last of the Jack years and the Monte experiment so very good is our standard plus striving to get to the top which is a goal.

People view each baseball game under a microscope and don't look at the big picture.
We are 35-7 and a top 5 ranked team. If you told us that is where we would be in January, we would take it no questions asked.
Coach EB continues to max out everything from this team. We have some shortfalls from a talent perspective but continue to consistently win. No series losses at this point in the season is so impressive.

For all the talk about pitching, this is my greater concern. I put together an OPS comparison of the hitters from this year's team and last year's (barring players who didn't get many AB's):

Granted, OPS isn't the only stat out there, but I think it's a pretty good hitting metric because it accounts for hits, types of hits, and walks. To this point in the season, the 2025 offense is nowhere near as prolific as the 2024 offense was, in terms of depth or at the top. Of course, the season's not over. Maybe they can go on a tear over the last month like the '23 team did. And I don't want to lose sight of the fact that it's been a historically great season thus far. Heck, they haven't even lost a series yet. So they've been finding ways to win, and there's something to be said for that. I just hope the lack of firepower doesn't come back to bite them.

Last year’s offense was one of the best Clemson has ever had
It’s hard to get exactly that again
And of course, you are comparing this year’s really good offense to last year’s legendary offense
It truly is a less threatening lineup overall than last year
That also has to do a lot with Cam and his slumping. When he goes everybody goes it seems.
May be wrong on that so I won’t base an argument on Cam’s slump
This lineup can become the same, but at the moment I couldn’t imagine. But it’s doesn’t need to.
But, I think we’ve definitely found hope in our starting rotation.
And while it’s always both sides offense and defense that matter…
Lack of pitching talent and depth has been the thing keeping us out of Omaha

OPS across the board is lower, but so is hitting in the ACC, so Clemson isn't necessarily alone in having a down year hitting the ball. The OPS+ this year is a 95, and last year it was a 97, so year-over-year they are 2% worse when comparing to the rest of the ACC (which could be affected by Cal and Stanford joining and having a much rougher schedule than the rest of the conference). The drop in OPS too can be explained by less power overall, this year they are averaging 1.17 HRs per game whereas last year they averaged 1.82 HRs per game. I think Bakich knows this, which might explain the more patient approach, leading to a higher OBP this year.
All this said though, they still create runs at the same rate as last year, with a 98 team WRC+ compared to a 99 last year. I do think some of the "power" hitters have been somewhat unlucky, with both Jarrell and Priest rocking sub 0.300 BABIPs. If they can continue to make contact, that will be a huge boost to the team going forward having two guys protect Cam and others in the lineup.
While I do think there are definite concerns going forward (lack of power, hitting with RISP, third starter etc.) this team still has improved from last year in terms of run differential. Last year they averaged 8.1 runs/game and allowed 5.6 runs/game. This year, they are averaging 7.5 runs/game and allowing 4.9 runs/game. Some of that can be contributed to Bakich throwing in the towel when a game gets out of hand (the 18-2 loss to GT), which skews it somewhat. This team is in a good spot, and if they can fix some of the weaknesses they've had, they can definitely make a run in the postseason.

Get a grip. We haven’t been to Omaha in 15 years. We are in no position to expect a national title or bust and it’s ridiculous to not enjoy the #2 team in America right now because of fears of what could happen in the super regionals.

I’m at the point in baseball that the regular season means nothing. I don’t care if we don’t host. Just make it to Omaha. It’s been too long. We’ve had good seasons and crapes the bed in post season.
