SEC groupies can deny it but the ACC is coming
Jul 24, 2012, 9:14 PM

Everything changes. Look at the SEC west about 5-10 years ago. It was a joke. Everyone knew that whoever won the East between Ga, FL, or TN was gonna win the SECCG. NOw the East is bad and the west is driving the bus.
Well dont look now but the ACC is coming and Clemson is leading the pack. Look at what we are bringing to the table with Coaches and Recruiting. Gonna be a beast for years.
FSU and VT will always be solid. NCSU is rapidly rising and several others will be joining us soon.
So I say 2-4 years the ACC will be one of the top COnferences again and we will be leading the way

college football will always be cyclical. That being said, as a whole SEC schools have far more students, more alums, and bigger fanbases than the ACC. SEC will always have more money, and the upperhand

Perhaps with UNC and Miami the ACC is gaining ground in that area also.

South Carolina bested (very convincingly mind you) the best the ACC had to offer, and Arkansas beat two Big 12 teams at neutral sites, and their only losses came from Bama and LSU.
So are you admitting Clemson wasn't as good as the ACC portrayed them to be, or are you just foolishly trying to downplay the success that South Carolina had?

"aped raped" clever metaphor there, you must be proud.
Point taken though about FSU beating us when we won the "least." The same least that went 3-1 against the ACC last year.
Not sure how Clemson beating FSU had any bearing on what I previously said. I already gave Clemson credit for being the best in the ACC last year, yet they couldn't compete with the 4th (or widely known as 5th over here).
But, please, keep throwing that inappropriate (and witty I might add) jargon and compare teams from different years to support your argument.

No 5th place rings is awesome. Congrats. What he is saying is that the SEC is top heavy. Lsu and Bama are leaps in front of everyone else in that conference. Every other team is capable of getting beat any given Saturday to any team. Yes y'all beat us congrats. It was at the roach and we didn't play that well. But don't act like y'all have anything to do with the SEC being a power conference. Y'all don't and have never added anything to that conference. If y'all left the SEC their tv money would not change one bit. But if Lsu or Bama left then the money would be less then it is.

I've never said we are an SEC powerhouse

I'll partially agree and say that it is somewhat top heavy with those two teams. However, Arkansas could hold their own with anyone outside of the SEC. And while we weren't on the same level as Bama and LSU, we weren't *too* far behind.
Our defense finished 3rd in total defense last year, behind Bama and LSU. I found out today that we were 4th in the SEC for offense (against other SEC teams). I realize we didn't play Bama or LSU, so our stats were partially inflated, but we did play Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee, who finished 5th, 8th, and 27th respectively. Heck, Vandy even finished 18th in total defense.
Once again, I realize we haven't given much to the success of the SEC, but I think we can both agree we've taken strides in the right direction considering how bad South Carolina was at one point.

Finally a Usuck fan that admits their history in college football is more then just three years. Jk. I'm not saying that y'all have not made strides. But we all know that the SeC is all about Bama and Lsu. Arky had a great year, but I foresee a fall off their. Also the best SEC team y'all played last was Arky, but Jawja didn't play any one either. Ur sucks, Tenn sucks, Ole miss and Miss suck, uk well you get the point. Clemson has been better thn a lot of teams for a long time. Don't worry our glory days are coming back. Last year we were very young and won the ACC. This year we are very young (11 seniors) we are back in the rise. Not trying to be disrespectful, but I see Usuck starting to decline a bit. You lost yalls best coach this year (Ellis). That is a huge loss for y'all. I'm not sure yalls defense will be even close to the same this year. Yalls offense took some big losses. Latty is back, but how is going to be this year? Has he lost a step, juke? We dont know. No major WR target except for Ace. I see UGA winning the east followed by UF then Tenn. I see SOS retiring after Latty is done and thn y'all start over. SOS's style is gone. Whomever y'all hire will have to do an overhaul to get his athletes in the system that takes 2-3 years. I'm not sure the staying power of yalls success. Are you?

Once again, some fair points, here's my rebuttal
Jul 25, 2012, 1:42 AM

I'll have to agree with your limited assessment on Arkansas. Petrino was a big part of that offense, plus they lost 3 receivers I believe. They've had our number but hopefully we'll get a victory against them this year.
Georgia had a weak schedule last year and a weak one this year. I'm pulling for Missouri to beat them, and I think they will with the circumstances (first SEC home game, UGA's suspensions). That would greatly help us and our hopes for winning the East. And yes, the East has been weaker than normal the past couple of years. However, compared to the ACC (just head to head, I know it's not the greatest comparison), they were still better last year.
True, Clemson has been better than a lot of teams, although many teams were better than them last year also, and Clemson always seems to have a game slip away they should have won. Maybe you are right, and Clemson is heading back up, although I'd be a little nervous about my O-line and D-line.
You and I see differently on South Carolina. First off, I think Spurrier is our best coach. I liked EJ, but he got torched by Arkansas the last 2 years. Ole Miss AND Vanderblit laid the blue prints to rattle the Arkansas offense, and he didn't follow through with more blitzing, something Lorenzo Ward said he was going to do more of. Not to mention, Ward was the D-coordinator in our bowl game. When you hold a team to negative 25 yards in the 4th quarter, no matter who you are playing, he's doing something right.
I can't answer the questions about Lattimore. I can only pray he's back and better than ever. You say Clemson is young, but I haven't seen one Clemson fan say anything about our freshman. We have some pretty good ones coming in on offense, in the WR position especially.
I'm not one to make predictions, but I don't see us doing any worse than second in the East, with a good possibility of winning it if we beat Georgia. I'm not sure on SOS's plans, but I think we'll be fine with our next hire, only time will tell.

when you hold a team to negative yards in the 4th, it's that the other team has quit, y'all didn't do it. nebraska's style was the best fit for y'alls defense.you admitted y'all didn't play the best the sec had to offer, yet brag about a top 5 defense, with numbers racked up against the sec lowlifes and a few cupcakes threw in. we will see y'all in november at the valley. can't wait!

You realize Nebraska was only down 3 heading into the 4th?
Jul 25, 2012, 11:33 AM
|
|
Quit being so ignorant, you are making yourself look foolish.
We didn't score in the 4th until around 8 minutes left, giving us the 10 point lead, and we didn't go up by 17 until 3 minutes to go, maybe less. If a team throws in the towel being down 10 points, that team has some problems. Just because Clemson quit in their bowl game doesn't mean every team does.
I didn't realize that Alabama and especially LSU had high flying offenses that would have torched us. Cmon man, you know Bama and LSU didn't have a great offense. Not saying we would have beat them, because their defense was much better than ours, but I think our defense could have kept their offense at bay.
Funny you mention some cupcakes... who was that last OOC game we played who only managed 153 yards against us?

Not hard to do when you play the offenses in the SEC. Congrats you got Clemson when they were falling apart. NC state beat the best team in the ACC, so does that mean they should be at the top of the SEC? Crump take out the trash, when this clown comes here, the IQ goes down

Since I can't bold, I should put it in all caps so you get the message, but I'll just say it again.
We aren't an SEC powerhouse. I even said we were the 4th best team in the SEC last year (5th place over here).
How does NC State beating Clemson have anything to do with their hypothetical success in the SEC? Absolutely nothing.
You do realize South Carolina beat 10 other teams besides Clemson last year right? And yes, we may have caught Clemson when they weren't playing their best, but I also attribute our defense to your abysmal offensive play. Did WVU catch CU at a bad time?

WOW....Who'd a Thunk it ? Especially by this board.
A month ago, the hot topic of every thread on here was about getting out of the ACC because it was about to Collapse, Everyone had you guys and FlaSt heading to either the SEC or the Big 12, Swofford was destroying the conference and cared only about the Basketball programs of the NC teams....... Now the ACC is going to blow the SEC out of the water in a couple of years.
What a difference three or four weeks makes huh ?

The more the ACC wins the more money Clemson gets. The more money Clemson gets the better Clemson can be.
I haven't ever cheered for the ACC, but after this Big12 conference crap and seeing the other conference TV deals; I'm all for chanting ACC. Fact is, we get the same slice of the money whether we or Duke plays for the national championship.
I'm now looking for 2 teams from the ACC to make the championship so that the pie is HUGE!

People can like my comments or not but I just started posting here this week. I cant stand the SEC, not because they win but because of how everyone hangs on their sacks. I love Clemson but I will pull for every ACC team winning all their games that arent against Clemson. ONe it helps SOS and two, I despise the SEC.
Also another factor is ESPN love affair with the SEC, makes me sick to see it.

With all of that being said. I just looked at scouts to see Clemson had moved up to 12th but also noticed the SEC has 5 teams in the top 10 to 0 for the ACC and 10 in the top 25 to 3 for the ACC.

The ACC's biggest problem is the number of schools that
Jul 24, 2012, 11:30 PM

have no passion for football, and no real incentive to ever do so. On top of that, we have these disjointed, manufactured division alignments that hinder continuity and dilute excitement and enthusiasm.
A great team will rise to the occasion and win championships, and that is cyclical. But there's something to be said for the twelve games each season that every team plays regardless of national championship contention, and that's where this league is still destined to struggle under its current format.
Many folks seem to have a problem with a north/south split because of Va. Tech having a perceived free pass to the championship game every year. Who cares. What about the season itself and the rivalries and continuity and opportunity for fans to travel more often and participate more? Saturdays in Death Valley.
The ACCCG has been a flop since its inception. If one division is a tougher fight to get there, so be it. Champions win championship games. That's why they're champions.

We'll be good in the future along with VT and FSU but either than that the ACC will be mediocre. But if there's one thing the SEC has shown us, you only need three good teams to be "the greatest conference of all time ever."

Um, what? 5-10 years ago would be the 2002-2007 years and LSU won 2 national titles in that time span. Auburn finished undefeated and ranked 2nd in 2004. Also, the SEC West won 3 of the 6 SEC Championship games. I'd hardly call the SEC West a "joke" during that period.

conference.
I believe that FSU and Clemson are looking great. VT should continue to be a strong national program. NCSU is getting stronger. Pitt might benefit from its instate-rival's woes. GT will give most opponents fits as long as they are running their unorthadox offense. And Wake continues to play above expectations.
However, BC needs some continuity at the head coach position. Maryland is in the middle of a questionable coaching move. UNC and Miami are horribly corrupt and their administrations will both be nervous to push the pedal down on their programs.
But I agree that these things are cyclical. People who say that the SEC is on top to stay are insane. Everything changes.

I just don't see the likes of Maryland or Virginia being able to stay in a game with the likes of Bama or LSU or even Arkansas. In fact, as much as it pains me to say this, I don't believe any ACC team could beat the coots this year. I hope I'm wrong (esp bout Clemson)

Wrong, I was merely pointing out his statement

was flawed. During the time he said the West was weak they bagged two MNCs and several at large. Since the SECCG startedt East has the advantage 11 wins to the West 9 wins. Will be 11 to 10 after this year. The East did have about an 8 yr run back in te early days

SEC West was pretty good 5-10 years ago.
2003 -- LSU wins conference and national championship 2004 -- Auburn wins conference and undefeated 2007 -- LSU wins conference and national championship
