Riley won't stick around if we have success

This is like getting a rising junior who had a big Sophomore year from the portal. This will be very temporary hire if we have any success. I'm curious as to what Dabo's succession plan will be.

Hopefully, Dabo is already looking for riley's replacement. He's an up-and-comer and will NOT be here for more than 2-3 years. Let's see how much of an up-thrust he can give us in that time.

Right. I think this move is more about injecting a new offensive philosophy than hiring the man himself.

No chance. This whole move is to season Jeff Scott more. I’d bet the farm that Scott steps back in as OC if/when Riley departs if we have success.

that was my first thought, Richardson's background, as long as he has a bit of humility and absorbs all he can from Riley in 1 or 2 seasons-seems a logical successor-(cart before the horse acknowledged)

Nope ?. Dealt with enough engineers that I will never yield the high ground to them. They have to prove they have a handle on the subject at hand and cannot just dazzle me with “I’m an engineer”. Not speaking to specific engineers such as chemical or mechanical, as my line of work doesn’t bring me into contact with those.

Riley was also the QBs coach at TCU. If he gets our young guys off to a great start, it will be worth it.

True it is the logical progression. A little shocked at the negative reaction from so many to the OP. Only a casual fan would not have already considered this before reading this post. Nothing inherently negative as it's based on the hope and likelihood of future success-

I could see Dabo retiring then and Riley taking over. I could also see Jeff Scott coming back on staff next year and then if Riley leaves him stepping up to OC.

Name a coordinator that has stayed around after great success. The good ones move on to what they think are greener pastures and the ones that suck hang out until they are fired

Bud Foster at VaTech. These are just guys from the ACC. There are plenty of great coaches who like being a coordinator. I think BV will realize this one day, if he hasn't already.

Some of Bama's overall staff turnover is directly related to Saban's relentless pressure, schedule and expectations he demands from his staff. He's had a notorious reputation of being extremely demanding and difficult, dating back to his days at Michigan State.

Same fan base that would call into the Tommy Bowden radio show first couple of years after he was hired and ask him if he was going to leave us every week. Such an insecure bunch. It's embarrassing for a big brand like Clemson. You think Bama fans do that?

A Clemson man. OK. That’s all fine and good but you want to keep him around and pay him handsomely just because of that? While the program goes down the toilet? Hail, I’m a Clemson man. I still have to show results to earn my paycheck. Clueless play calling is one thing, but our player development, especially on offense, was nonexistent. He turned a 5 star QB (possibly more than just one) into a joke. Offensive recruiting has tanked. Dabo made another Boss Move. Be happy. I know I am!

He's done pretty darn good even with the turnover he has. 2-3 years of natty wins is great for Riley and for Clemson. Chad Morris was a great coordinator that left Clemson better off when he went on to head coach. Venables was here a long time, but even 2-3 years of him would have produced outstanding results. Welcome Coach Riley! Now let's go score some touchdowns!!

That's a good thing. Heck we were lucky Venables stayed as long as he did. It's part of college football these days. Nobody is sitting in the same spot for long because there are so many lower end HC positions consistently being opened. If you're sitting idle at one school for years on end with no HC job offers, you're not good at your job. Maybe we will get lucky and he will wait for specific schools to open up for a job like Venables? Or maybe we will get lucky and he will want to work here for a very long time like Bud Foster? It's doubtful but we dont know yet and we don't need to worry about it when the ink hasn't even dried on the paper yet. Let's just enjoy this because this is a massive step forward to getting back to the top of CFB.

I feel like it is like The Chad all over again in that Dabo is interested in bringing in new offensive schemes and learning them to be successful. It worked out last time.

Ok so what, hopefully we learned a lesson… Saban does it every couple years , we pay coordinators we can hire the best available when he chooses to leave. But it’s also a known thing that coordinators love working at Clemson and for Dabo so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s here 3-4 years. Not all coaches just wanna jump to the first head coaching opportunity.
