Part of the problem with the defense could be the offense

If the offense is only out there for two or three plays the whole first half that can take a toll on your defense. We’ve gotta have some more offensive ingenuity.

Last time we played we were down 10-0 before the offense ever saw the field.

Then of course the 3 and outs started, but still......

Exactly. I was thinking that the offense’s ineptitude was tiring out the defense until Syracuse. They are just playing terribly.

I don't think the offesne was ultra terrible against Syracuse

Passing
Syracuse 279
Clemson 335

Rushing
Syracuse 154
Clemson 140

First downs
Syracuse 24
Clemson 29

Pass Completion %
Syracuse 53.8
Clemson 60.7

Rushing YPC
Syracuse 4.0
Clemson 6.4

Turnovers was the big difference....we had 2 and they had none. Plus our defense and special teams spotted them 10 points. A fumble followed by an easy touchdown. 17 points right there mostly on the defense. The 1st half the defense was playing like trying to catch water with cheese cloth so even a mildly average performance by our D would have meant we won.

How do you explain the first drive of every game against us?

We were gashed right off the bat before any adjustments were made.

Lack of production on offense does put pressure on the defense. The D gets tired and little problems become magnified.

When a team has a qb they do not believe in there is a negative psyche among the entire bunch.
When BV was here we had a “d” that the whole team believed in. Look at who we were then.

Class of ‘71. Went through “rat season” and glad I did.
