The understanding was Clemson promoted Wes to DC to keep his mind/knowledge in town when Brent left. Had Clemson not promoted Wes, Brent would have quickly taken him to Oklahoma.
Wes's ability to analyze and scheme for an offense is there. The ability to coach the players is what is lacking. Teaming with Brent again would be a solution to that.

He had so many injuries on offense, particularly WR, that by the end of the season he had DBs playing WR. I think he lost 7 WRs to injury throughout the season.
With that said, I have no idea if the rumors about Wes are true or not. It is my understanding that Brent and Wes wroked great together and have a ton of mutual respect.

That is the only reason Dabo hired him, because of his knowledge of BV’s system and BV was going to take him with him to OK when he got hired.

The hard part is the coordinator from Oklahoma that just left for the WV job is a Clemson graduate. I think that is who Dabo was targeting. With him off the board idk where Dabo turns. Unless he promotes within. But still he may surprise me!

I don’t think Dabo was targeting Alley at all. That’s not his MO when replacing his experimental hires. He’s going to go after an experienced, and established P4 DC. I would say someone in a Jim Leonhard mold.

I think the rumors about what is transpiring supports my hypothesis that Dabo and Brent remain close and are working together for the betterment of both programs.
I think Dabo certainly owes Wes (to some degree) and feels somewhat responsible for putting him in a position that he couldn't live up to---let's face it: ANYONE who came in behind BV would be held to a very high standard--impossibly high, some might say.
If the new DC is who I think it is, that is very good news for Clemson and I would expect to see an instant improvement in technique, scheme and intensity.

99 percent of the people want him gone so don’t dwell on it. I surely hope Dabo can get a good one and not promote another dang clemson grad to DC. He needs to rid the staff of these Clemson grads that have done nothing to get Clemson back to elite level. And fyi Clemson may not get back because of nil and portal
Coaches with zero experience anywhere else is not helping this program, that’s my opinion and it may not be yours and that’s fine.

That's probably <5% of Clemson fans.
95+% of Clemson fans think Dabo always does what's best for our team and school and will agree with the decision if Wes moves on for whatever reason.

Part of the problem is this, Dabo was a long shot. The Chad was a long shot. He has had success with long shots, as well as unadulterated failure. Unfortunately, for him, he doesn't have the opportunity to experiment with these long shots at this level

Yeah. I've seen several sites that are advertising Goodwin to Oklahoma. The problem is, once you get a go rumor going, it kind of blows up into a 100% guarantee. If David Hood says there's nothing from Dabo, then we've only got innuendo
