Does the AG not serve at the pleasure of the POTUS?...
Jan 30, 2017, 9:56 PM

Sounds like she wasn't willing to defend the government, so...
Going to be interesting on what powers the acting AG will have without Senate confirmation. One thing is for sure...things aren't operating as status quo. Thats what the people that voted for Trump wanted and they're getting it.

Rebuilding is a lot different than starting from scratch

although, by the time he is done knocking down the walls it might just be like starting from scratch.
Military used a similar strategy with recruits; burn them down and then build them up. Worked pretty good too.

Nixon had to go through a number of Attorney Generals
Jan 30, 2017, 10:32 PM

before he found a lackey to do his bidding - Robert Bork.
The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the United States. Shopping until you find one that will give you the legal rationalization you seek does not create confidence.
I realize that Trumpkins are impervious to truth, but your guy is making new enemies every day. That Nixon thing didn't end well and neither will this one.

Is Trump making enemies? Or is he
Jan 30, 2017, 10:41 PM
|

doing what he promised he would to those who (elected him) were the enemies of the "status quo" that preceded him? BTW, that group matters too.
Now, to date, he has really shaken things up pretty good. What i expect from him, for better or for worse, is that the more the "other" side continues to make a power stand against him the harder he will hit back. Diplomacy has its place, but it only matters when both sides respect each other and DJT has certainly not received any respect - and he is the President of the United States of America.

There is no Muslim ban. There is a ban on PEOPLE from a group of NATIONS that support/condone terrorism who can now not enter the US for 90 days. Furthermore, in the past we have spent entire decades taking in less immigrants than we take in in any given month now. And why? Because in the great depression it became obvious that we needed to curb immigration to free up jobs for Americans. During the roaring 20's everyone and their brother came to the US, at rates similar to today. Then when the depression hit, halting immigration helped us recover.
And the biggest irony in all of this is it's the evil capitalists and the ultra wealthy who love cheap immigrant labor. It keeps their labor costs down and profitability up. Happened in the 20's and we paid the price. This is nothing new. Perhaps we're ahead of the curve this time around in tightening our domestic labor markets. But even then, Trump has proposed NOTHING CLOSE to the curbs in immigration we saw in the 1930's. Not even a drop in that bucket.
If we stop all illegal immigration and enforce our current immigration laws, we will still be well above the 100-year average for immigration.
But the organized and feigned hysteria out there is amusing.

maybe as soon as today. This is about as as non-news as it gets. She just got the opportunity to become a martyr, and seal up a cushy lawyer job in ACLU, PETA, or maybe Planned Parenthood, who will no doubt hold her as a hero.
Oddly the guy who is stepping in as interim AG is a Democrat. Good for him.
Some of you folks need to go find a new hobby for the next 4 years or you're gonna have to get a prescription for some hypertension meds. Because we're just a week+ in; way more to come to straighten out this country.
Not that I want you to stop - you do provide great entertainment for the rest of us.

Trump passed the EO by the DOJ prior to issuing it.
In her letter she said it was her job to stand "for what is right" and that her duty was to address "whether an EO is wise or just."
Sorry, but it's one thing to say that legally you don't think the EO can be defended...it's another to say you don't think it's wise or just. That's not your job, that is the POTUS's job...like it or not.
From what I've seen, she deserved to be fired.

courts equates to amateur hour?
If so, curious what you make of President Obama's record. He got slapped down by the courts on a number of big EO's too, didn't he?

Like you said, it was only temporary anyway. Now she'll be hailed as the courageous heroine who "defied Trump" and use it as a stepping stone to another gig.

Firing is the only thing Trump and Nixon situations share.
Jan 30, 2017, 10:33 PM
|
|
Nixon firings were for his hires refusing to break the law. Trump's firing was refusal to defend the executive branch when the Constitution and a 1952 law empowered the executive branch as sole authority over border control. Yes, every president since 1952 could have legally built a wall, Obama had the right to suspend Iraqi immigration.
Trump has the power to suspend any or all immigration of those who he determines to be a threat to the American populous or national security. He is empowered and obligated to do so. He is also held accountable to the people if he fails.
So no, there are no echoes of Nixon except those who failed 7th grade social studies.
