(unsurprisingly) reached into Frank Martin's basketball program at usuck where they had unprecedented success post-season. No one at The State seems concerned a former usuck assistant was arrested by the FBI....Frank Martin has made a statement concerning the Dept.of Justice/FBI investigation, but has entertained no questions on the matter. usuck has publicly stated THEY'RE conducting their own investigation into Lamont Evans' dealings with usuck players.....but there's been no word from usuck yet and certainly little interest by local media.
And then undoubtedly the NCAA will be examining all the facts the FBI digs up in the not-too-distant future.
Clemson's recent basketball fortunes have not been particularly successful, but at least the university hasn't recieved a subpoena from the Dept. of Justice nor had a recent basketball program employee arrested by the FBI.

So would some of you like for us to create some phantom classes, get TAs to write papers for our athletes, and just make sure there are some non-athletes in the classes, so we can recruit the 5 stars, sorta like UNCheaters? Great. We can return to the Tates Locke days and probations. Listen to Coach Brownell. I'd rather lose honestly than cheat to win.

Thank you Tigered1. Brownell seems to be running his program the way Bill Foster did. Sure, we would have liked to win more big games during that era, but we needed a clean program after the Tates Locke era. Bill Foster's players were in many of my classes. They attended class regularly, took notes, turned in their work, and borrowed notes when they had to miss for away games. Several were also active in FCA. Now (or then) if we could just shoot foul shots and get rebounds in the same game...

Brownell, in many ways, = Dabo - wins.

And believe it or not, that's a compliment. Integrity out the wazoo; does it the right way without compromise or apology. Refuses to tread in that "gray area" where many, if not most successful basketball programs live. Personally, I believe college basketball is effed-up on many levels, and sadly it's very difficult for guys like Brownell (or Dabo, for that matter) to achieve and maintain success at the highest level. I wish the NCAA would grow some bawls so that low-life scum were not rewarded while good guys and good coaches like Brownell are handicapped; but I also wish I had a magic flying carpet. I don't think it's the only reason, but I think it is one reason Brownell has struggled here, and a not so insignificant one. I want badly for Brownell to succeed at Clemson, and I am not willing for one second to hire a scumbag who bends the rules or flat out cheats. I really and truly hope this is the year that Brownell gets over the hump.

I think if BB is the man to build a solid NCAA tourney program, we would know it by now. He seems to be an upright guy but it just isn't happening on the floor.

I'm hoping I am wrong. I think Brownell is a very good coach, but has had a couple of things against him. First, his integrity, as discussed, has worked against him. Then there is the lack of winning tradition here at Clemson, at least at a high level, and as compared to most of our conference mates. When you combine that with what at least appears to have been a chronic lack of importance (and money) placed on basketball at Clemson, it has been tough for anybody to build and sustain success at a high level here. We are generally regarded as a football school that oh yeah, happens to have a basketball team. New facilities and new assistants may turn that around, but it could be too little, too late for Brownell. His name and reputation, I fear, may be too closely associated with failure at Clemson. And when I say failure, I mean failure to compete at a high level.
