My QB Prediction

Apr 12, 2017, 9:16 PM

Bryant starts year. Plays allright vs Kent State. Struggles against Auburn. Hunter Johnson comes in at halftime. Hunter Johnson starts rest of year and Bryant comes in in certain situations. Cooper transfers

When I saw Bryant run the ball in the spring game I kept thinking about Nick Marshall. I dont know if he is as shifty as Marshall but he's as fast. Marshall had no receivers and an "ok" defense and managed to make it to the natty. Why can't Bryant handle it with great receivers, solid RBs and a good line? Oh and a great defense!
Let Hunter play some but I don't see him winning the starting job outright this season.
Which begs the question...how long does he stay? He will have to fight Lawrence after Bryant graduates.

We don't have the OL that nick Marshall had.

Possible, but

Apr 13, 2017, 8:49 AM

Johnson is a great talent but is not there yet from decision making and knowledge of the offense - we forget DW4 ran basically the offense since the 8th grade so his transition was quick ---- and he is DW4.

I think KB's running ability will cause some wide open WR's and make passing easier - much like Nick Marshall at Auburn (who Bryant is a better passer than) when he threw for over 60%.

I am not saying it won't happen (Johnson playing) but just because Bryant isn't a Watson clone doesn't mean this offense can't be very good using his talents. The DW4 offense was at its best when he ran the ball more.

I will withhold judgment on HJ until I see him play behind our first string Oline.

I tend to agree with this. My biggest thing with Bryant is that he may look to run too quickly. Also if he is going to be a run first qb he has to be able to actually read the zone read play correctly.

In the South Carolina game he made his mind up before the snap whether he was going to keep it or hand it off. He has to look at the DE and see if he is going to bite on the RB or come down on him and make a decision accordingly
