He certainly showed his worth during spring camp.
Watch how long it takes before he commits to another team and you might see a tem that needed a kicker and did some tampering after seeing his potential.
I was looking forward to seeing him play for Clemson.
I'm not sure if tampering applies to walk-ons - or if it's only to protect scholarship assets.

kicker, and you HAD the starting job at Clemson, I can't see why you would EVER want to transfer somewhere else. Riley's offense should lead to a lot of extra points and field goal attempts, and Clemson is as high profile as any other school in the country.

With our scholarship numbers he probably wouldn’t get one at least this year. Maybe someone offered a scholarship. If that is the case, good for him.

I think you're probably right.
As a walk-on, he didn't have much of an upside until we have scholarships open up. Meanwhile, he can get a scholarship + NIL money somewhere else based on his performance in our camp - and we're left holding the bag.
It's a shame, because I think he may have been the best of the new kickers.

Yes, thought he was the best kicker on the field. Probably promoted someone else in front of him. This is why we seem to never have a good kicker. He seemed to kick in the endzone with such ease. Hope we made the right choice.

Seriously if he isn't on scholarship does he have to hit a pootal or can' he just leave a shop himself to the highest NIL bid for scharaship.

Yea don’t believe Danny believed in a scholarship for a kicker. I do remember the try outs. Times have definitely changed.

A bit disconcerting. He looked better than Gunn in the spring who seems to still be recovering from knee surgery. Can't blame the kid if he can get a full ride somewhere else. Just hope it doesn't come back to bite us if Gunn fails to live up to expectations. Makes you wonder what the conversation with Dabo was that made him make this decision. If nothing else, he was much better than Gunn on kickoffs.

Yeah, I agree. He's got footage of hitting 60 yarders with ease. That one in spring is good from 60.

This is a loss plain and simple, anyone saying otherwise doesn't get it. College is not the same as the NFL. In the NFL if your kicker gets a case of the yips, that Monday you tryout several free agents, someone who already has proven kicking experience. In college, you call the soccer coach or see if your punter can kick. To totally different situations.
Boyd is a legit P5 kicker with a very strong leg, good for him, if he can turn his strong spring into a scholarship somewhere more power to him.
Let's hope Gunn doesn't get rattled or aggravate his previous ACL injury. Hopefully we can find another high quality walk-on this fall. My guess is that there is already something in the works, had to know Boyd would pursue a scholarship somewhere if he showed out.

Didn't know you could actually hit the portal if you were a walk-on. And currently, we are 2 over on the number of scholarships we have available. Haven't seen anything official from Clemson confirming Boyd is leaving (whether via Transfer, or just leaving on his own).
In any case, he seems to have talent for competing for a starting kicking opportunity. We currently have a kicker (Gunn) on scholarship and no scholarships available to offer Boyd (2 over as I mentioned earlier). Regrettably, we "MAY" be losing a good kicking prospect, while not gaining an extra scholarship as a result (since he's currently a walk-on).
While not good for us, if Boyd found (or finds) a kicking opportunity elsewhere, we can't blame him if he takes a scholarship where he can find one. In the meantime, I'm still waiting for an official Clemson statement on the Boyd situation!
